    vit d

My husband's multi vit has 700iu of vit d in it but I'm having trouble getting 300iu anywhere to make it up to the recommended 1000iu. I can get 400iu but is that going to take it up too much? Am I better leaving it at 700?
    Thanks

Hope this helps, I found a multivitamin at Walgreens that has 400IU and the vitamin D for 400IU.

According to the Mayo clinic, taking 50,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity. This level is many times higher than the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for most adults of 600 IU of vitamin D a day. Doses higher than the RDA are sometimes used to treat medical problems such as vitamin D deficiency, but these are given only under the care of a doctor and only for a short time.

Although vitamin D toxicity is uncommon even among people who take supplements, you may be at greater risk if you have health problems, such as liver or kidney conditions, or if you take thiazide-type diuretics. As always, talk to your doctor before taking vitamin and mineral supplements.

I spoke to my doctor today! He said 600 IU to 800 IU daily is enough, don't try to over do it, unless you have a deficiency or you are currently breastfeeding or pregnant then it is 1000 IU, I hope this helps.

Yes the 400 is fine (to add up to 1100). Ballpark of 1000 is dandy. 700 is actually also ok. I just don't want anyone thinking, "well if 1000 is good, I'll give him 10 times that amount" which unfortunately some people do.

Yes my recommendation for blue swayers is the 1000 IU, both DH and DW. This is a safe amount and quite a few blue swayers are low in D anyway.
