Protein amount and blood sugar levels

Does the amount of protein eaten with carbs have an influence on how long blood sugar will stay raised?

For example, if I was to eat a slice of ham (so 3-4 grams protein) with my carbs would that be sufficient to maintain my blood sugar levels? Or would I need to ear more protein?

good question. i think from what i read on here, 30g of protein with carbs in the main meals and as much as you can in snacks. so i do 30g for the main meals (easy for dinner for me but not the other 2 meals) and for snacks ill have anywhere from 7g-15g of protein.

i think the number 30g of protein came from the idea that the body can typically only digest about 30g of protein at a time. anything more, then its pointless. so probably for optimal results, 30g/ 3 times a day, and snacks whatever.

    Thanks gizmo.

I can manage the 30g of protein easily at dinner as well. Lunch isn't too bad, but I really struggle with breakfast. I don't like milk, egg or nuts so finding something with protein for breakfast is so hard.

3-4 g protein is better than nothing but more would be better. Can you eat TWO slices of ham??

Yes, I can easily eat more than one slice at a time. I just don't want to have to eat so much ham as my protein source seeing as we should be limiting deli meats. If I was able to get sufficient protein through main meals then I was hoping I could snack frequently throughout the day on carbs and a small amount of protein. That's why I asked if a small amount of protein with carbs would be ok to maintain blood sugar levels.

I'm sorry, I missed that it was for a snack and not for a main meal.

I agree that ham is not the greatest as a source of protein but if you had the one slice of ham with a couple of slices of bread that ALSO had some protein in it, then that's fine.
