Free Harmony Testing for Early Gender Determination

I just got a BFP (yay!) and I am totally impatient to find out if my sway worked so I have been investigating all the early gender tests and have been contacting the companies to determine the cost.

I just got the following email from the makers of the Harmony test which can tell you gender as early as 10 weeks:

    Hello Christi,
Yes, the $195 price includes the XY testing. Please note that the $195 dollar price is for people who do not have insurance. For people who have insurance (even if their insurance does not cover the test), the price would be $0 (except for Kaiser patients). This would be a good selling point to tell your doctor.

The account setup process not much of a hassle. Your doctor would call us and we would get her in touch with a local sales rep. Once the setup is complete we would send her kits and test forms that she would hand out to her patients who would then go to any blood draw site to have the blood collected and shipped to us.

    ---End of Email----

So, if you get the test directly through your doctor the most the test will cost is $195. If you have insurance (even if it isn't covered), the test is free. Needless to say I will be begging, cajoling, pleading, and otherwise ingratiating myself to my doctor to order this test for me. To the extent that anyone else is considering this test, I thought i would share the fact that it could be free if you can get your doctor's office to order the test directly for you.

No. Everyone. That would be age discrimination!

The email doesn't say anything about being only for 35+, and the point of his email was that he was trying to get me to convince my doctor to start offering the test, so he was talking about more than just my specific case (thus, the comment about it being a selling point to my doctor).

My doctor's office said they would order the test for me, so if I encounter any snags, I will be sure to report back!
