Granted, I haven't read much about skull theory, but I wouldn't put a lot of stock into it. If it were me, I think I'd wait a couple of weeks for my 18 week scan. A little more of ignorance is blissBut I totally get wanting to find out earlier too, I think I'd just be weary about doing another U/S after this one didn't really give you any results other than knowing your baby has a sweet profile

I don't really believe in skull theory either its fun for guessing but not accurate! If you can spare the cash and DH is willing I would go for it, otherwise you might drive yourself crazy over the next three weeks(speaking from my own personal experience) x

Skull theory as far as gender ultrasounds are guesses at best based on an actual sound forensic science. You can easily tell the difference between an adult male and female skull by shape and the "caveman brow" or lack thereof. People decided to try to apply it as an early gender tactic. Without holding the actual physical skull no flesh attached its not as accurate as the forensic science. The brow bone is a dead give away on a lot of shots for male vs looking at the roundness of the skull. My sons for example was very pronounced and undoubtedly male whereas my future daughters skull has a smooth slope instead of the cave in. So there is truth to it but applying to ultrasounds is usually guessing at best. These features can change with ethnicity too. So someone elses sons cave in may not look as pronounced in the younger years but more as an adult or not much at all to the point only a highly trained anthropologist or forensic scientist would be able to tell.46525_10151070730963869_593764163_n.jpg

Aida I hope you dont mind , I allowed my self to add little contrast to you baby's picture because I was sure that I saw a nub there , just to make it clearer

Adia, I think i can see a bit of a nub in that last pic? If that's the nub then it looks like a boy. I definitely noticed that during my last ultra sound the skull looked both boyish and girly depending on the angle. So I think the skull theory is a little tricky to apply and the exact angle is needed for it to be accurate?

Business Woman and Sarah...thank you dears. You are making me tear up. I appreciate you taking the time and giving me your input. You are incredible to see anything. I can barely see the obvious arm and leg!
I appreciate everyone who has taken time for my pictures. I was hoping they would be more obvious but I took a chance.
I am so torn and in quite the slump. I had hoped to feel much better after the scan yesterday but I don't. I may have to take DH up on his offer and go get an elective scan next week to determine gender. The scan yesterday was successful in that DD2 and DD3 were so surprised and excited. I wouldn't have done well with gender determination while they were with me. We only spent about $45 on the scan yesterday. With DH job discount we could get a gender scan next week for about $67 so the total of both scans wouldn't be horrible. Maybe I will do that for peace of mind.

yeah you see the same thing I see business woman. It looks like a boy nub but just cant be sure because of the interference.
And yes Sarah it definitely has to be a straight on angle and making sure you can see the full nasal bone like you can in the one good one that business turned the contrast up on. Because that skull looks completely different and you can see the prominent brow bone where the rest look girly. Its all about angle of the ultrasound probe plus angle of the skull
Adia- Ours was done at 14/6 which you may as well say 15 weeks. And we got fantastic proof positive of what was going on in there. Dont stretch your finances to thin if you cant swing it but if you can and it will bring you peace then by all means go for it!
