Belliboi- I think you're right because I had the ovarian cyst (on my right , too!), which dr said is what starts the pregnancy hormones just by being there (progesterone I think)...correct me if I'm wrong. I had never known that about the little ovarian cysts in early pregnancy, though. But after things get going with the placenta, the cyst fades away. Anyway, I find it all quite interesting!

When you ovulate a little follicle opens up and slowly over in some cases a half hour pushes out the egg. If that follicle closes and retains fluid you get whats called a corpus luteum cyst. On an ultrasound they can see the corpus letuem where the egg was released and thats how they tell what side you ovulated on.
This is different from follicular cysts which is where ovulation started but something went wrong and instead of the egg release you get a cyst. Which is why if you have PCOS you have a harder time getting pregnant because you will still see the LH surge but no eggy just a mean ol cyst. You can see the two types of luteum that just close normally over time, those are what they see on the ultrasound when they check the ovaries.
This is what happens when you sit around reading medical books your entire first pregnancy LOL I am such a geek!!!

My gender dreaming success arrived safe July 2015.He is a complete dream come true and an absolutely beautiful little boy.
A huge thank you to Atomic for all her encouragement when I was up against things out of my control and ready to chuck it in. I can never thank you enough. Thank you also to all the other knowledgeable and ever supportive ladies that have helped and encouraged me. I truly believe my dream would not have come true without this site, my boy gender plan and the incredible love and support.

Im so serious about the medical books LOL. I practically walked into my OB's office and told her what was up LOL. she only did fundal measurements to check that the one I had done was correct for liability reasons. She told me on several ocassions "stop stealing my thunder go buy regular pregnancy books" LOL

Just had my gender scan at 16w 4d and baby was being very awkward and kept crossing it's legs + not showing us anything, the pics I have are from underneath/side view of the bits, the tech said she saw nothing to suggest boy and that what she thought she could see was swollen girl bits with the White lines on, after what seemed like forever she said Girl!
But it didn't exactly fill me with confidence + too scared to get excited, my 20w scan is now 4 weeks away. What do you make of the pics?Mummy toCurrently
