I have been loosely swaying girl and have been using a store brand OPK. I got my Mirena removed about 5 days ago. I've been testing 3 times a day and have been getting faint test lines, which I know mean negative. My question is.....the test line on the one this morning was the same color as the control line, but when I tested again 4 hours later the test line was barely visible. Was my one this morning my LH surge and it went down by the time I took the second?? Does this mean I'll be ovulating soon or that it was a false positive since I got a negative so soon after? Should we BD once today? I really want to get pregnant this cycle. Help please! Thank you!

Question about OPK's!

First, what store brand?
Second, LH levels fluctuate over the course of the day, so it's normal to only get positives at certain times. In most women LH peaks in the late am to mid afternoon (in a minority, earlier in the am) and the rest of the day levels are often much lower. If you get any positive test during the day, even just one, then it's a positive OPK day.
BUT if you got your positive with FMU, it's possible it's a false positive as FMU is generally much more concentrated than urine at other times of day. And if you are using a bad quality brand that's too sensitive, a false positive is even more likely. I recommend keeping in mind the colour of the urine you tested with and only comparing OPKs that were dipped in similar darkness urine.
Did you O/get regular, full AFs on the Mirena? If you didn't, I think it's unlikely you'd get a real surge so soon after removal.
My Ovulation Chart currently TTC, Cycle #16 since last BFP
TTC #1- swaying pink on & off since Nov 2013 - hoping for a girl first but excited for either!
Dec 2001 - May 2006 : 5 early abortions of healthy singletons (3 medical @5w, 2 surgical @8w, last 4 pregnancies conceived with late DH, all conceived while TTA/on birth control)
Mar 2012: miscarried B/G twins @5w (conceived 2 cycles after remověng Paraguard copper IUD while NTNP), one twin was ovarian ectopic
Me: 34, widowed, late O + short LP, normal-good hormone levels excepting undetectable testosterone, seeking a known sperm donor/life partner
My sway: vegetarian LE for over 28w, skipping breakfast, fibre (ground psyllium husks) with/before/between meals, physically inactive, drama avoidance, ocassional minimal YesBaby lube as needed, alternate cycles on low dose Clomid, double shot lattes (with meals)
Past sway tactics I've dropped (in order): Vitex, Sudafed, antihistamines, intermittent fasting, one attempt per cycle at positive OPK, one attempt in fertile period

I should probably also add that I've been spotting for the past two days.

I ovulated about a week to 10 days after the removal of my mirena. I was ovulating when it was in but not getting a proper AF, just a bit of spotting. I knew I was ovulating because I get pain around that time and I also temped one month. When I had it removed though I had no idea what part of my cycle I was in as I wasn't paying attention!
Have you had a withdrawal bleed from the mirena removal? I had one 2 days later and it only lasted 2 days. I have read for some people it was a lot longer.

Unfortunately the Walgreens brand generic OPKs are extremely unreliable. They're much too sensitive and give many false positives. I highly recommend you switch brands immediately. The best are Wondfo OPKs from amazon, make sure they are sold via Formosa Medical as there have been fakes sold by other sellers.
Since Wondfos are only available from amazon, you could use FRER, Clear Blue Digital or Dollar Tree brand in the meantime. But Wondfos are really so superior to any other brand. They're just the right sensitivity to give the vast majority of women just 1-2 days of positives per cycle and they're very reliable.
Personally I think if you ordered Wondfos today/tomorrow to arrive Monday or even Tuesday you'd not need another brand before then. Then you can test the awful pink generics along side the Wondfos for comparison.

I wasn't paying attention either! I had heard from numerous people that trying to track ovulation with Mirena was a lost cause because when it comes out everything can get thrown off. I'm so glad to hear someone has been in the same boat as me! I got it out Monday and started bleeding Wednesday evening. As of today (Friday) it seems to have gone away. It was never anything major, just some spotting to a very light flow. I never needed a tampon. We BD the same day I had it removed and also on Wednesday. Since I'm TTC a girl, should I BD today also in case that was a correct positive? Or cross my fingers that BDing Monday and Wednesday was good enough? I know if you BD the same day as ovulation it tends to away boy (right?) so I wohld like to avoid that if that's true. Even though we would be elated for a boy as well!

Timing does not sway, so no, BDing on O day doesn't sway. I strongly suggest you stick to BD every 4 days.

Maiden, thanks so much for your thorough reply, I honestly have very little to add, I'll just sum up:
I doubt it's a real surge at this stage but best to TTC anyway
BD at ovulation doesn't sway boy, that's been debunked http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gend...le-timing.html
We are getting best results with one attempt at pos OPK or every 4 days, and Wednesday is quite far away so best to BD again to cover your bases.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Thank you! I am almost fresh out of opks and was browsing Amazon getting ready to put in an order. I NEVER would have checked the seller; I tend to focus on price and free shipping (as well as international shipping). I might pay more with the shipping but I'm glad you posted this; at least I know I'm getting a reputable product!
