HELP! DH has to take meds...

What a tough decision! There are so many instances like this in swaying, I have noticed. Like Atomic says, it is always something! I am constantly stressing about what we are doing wrong and how long we have to fix things (I can't keep waiting for 72 days every time DH does something dumb that might jeopardize the sperm)... it is so frustrating, isn't it?

Thanks for all the feedback ladies. Spicy Tuna... sorry to hear you were sick That is never fun, especially while pregnant. So this is the conclusion I have come to... DH had a mild fever (never went much higher than 100) for 1.5 days but he kept it down with meds the entire time (he still had to go to work and function so he was pretty medicated). Already tested his PH and he is already back up to a 7.8 after all those meds. I'm satisfied with that. So I know most likely his sperm numbers are going to be down a little bit which might sway girl, but like Atomic said, I just don't think things will ever line up perfectly. He had to take some meds a few months ago, which are proven to affect sperm and a no-no to use when TTC, so we had to hold off for 72 days after that med was done So now we were just getting over that and then this comes up. It will always be something. I'm sure I will get sick the next time around... heck, with three little ones in the house it seems like someone is always sick. But a lot of other sway factors are in our favor right now (our diets have been good, high ph, stress ful life, i've been lifting lots of weights and gaining weight, good time of year, it's going to be a full moon, etc).


I feel like if I take one month off, then the reasoning I'm using (ie. the fever affected his sperm numbers/motility) then I really need to wait the entire 72 days to be rid of any affects from the fever. Unfortunately I just don't have time for this...
I'm concerned about my kids being too spread out in age if I keep waiting for all my sway factors to line up just right. Plus I've been on the diet already now for 4 months! That means that I only have 2 months TTC before I'll have to give the diet a break. My window of opportunity is closing in on me!

So this is my conclusion after lots of pondering and discussing the issue with my DH. So looks like we're going for it next week! Ah! Can't believe it's here! Thanks again for all of your feedback. It really does help.

STBS, I did want to let you know that the High-Everything diet can be followed indefinitely and you can just eat more reasonable amounts of sodium and cal-mag while still following it, so if you would like an alternative to the highly restrictive mineral-based traditional sway diets, you might want to give it a try. It's in the Dream Members section or I can PM the basics to you.

FWIW I think you're doing the right thing by going ahead. Best of luck and sending you all my blue dust.

Oh CRAP! My DH is sick, mild respiratory infection, but he got antibiotic and painkiller for headache and he had fever for 2 days He is on day #4 on antibiotics, please tell me it doesn't sway pink

I religiously cram him with supps, can that counteract? I'm 10-12 days away from O.

Z-B - are all of our DH's hanging out together giving each other their germs?? What in the world? I believe that antibiotics actually sway boy, but pain meds can sway girl (by affecting the pH). My DH took lots of pain meds and his pH was fine within a day or two of stopping them. How bad was the fever? Did he control it with the meds? Look back in this thread a little earlier and there is some great info about how fevers affect sperm count, motility, etc. I decided that my DH's mild fever for 1.5 days wasn't enough to stop me. Is your DH still sick? Hope he feels better soon. Let us all know what you decide.

Yes, Ive read the whole thread, that's how I got concerned in the first place LOL!

My DH is feeling much better since yesterday and by my O date all this will be ancient history so I've decided to go for it! :FX:

He had 37.3 Celsius being the highest temp, teeny-tiny lil' bit above normal ( that's the way I'm telling myself his sperm wasn't affected )
Like I said, no time to wait, I hope the supps would do their job I have to ask him nicely to ice his boys before BD lol!

This thread made me worry, too. My DH had a cold last week, though I know he didn't have a fever (I took his temp)--is the fever all we worry about? Does the actual sickness do anything to the sperm count?

The antibiotics do raise pH, but they may negatively impact sperm count. The pain killers can lower pH, and fever can lower count/motility.

That having been said, Z, I do think you've done so much already that your husband's sperm will withstand anything!!!

I would honestly go ahead and try. There's never been a 3 month period in which my husband wasn't sick before we TTC!!
