Where were you, out of curiosity? For me it was actually a bit more than 10 years ago - 1997. I went to Milan for my brother's wedding, then backpacked around Italy for 6 weeks with a girlfriend from university. For the Tuscany portion of our trip we spent about a week in Florence then another week in Montepulciano. Ah, the freedom of life before kids....

8 years for us - my maths obviously isn't very good today (my brain in general is not good - I'm finding I'm putting things in weird places already!). It was 2003 and our honeymoon and we stayed near Arezzo (somewhere between Florence and Montepulciano) and travelled around. It was the middle of nowhere really so we were eating in rural restaurants rather than bigger towns and cities if that makes any difference!

Montepulciano at the time was pretty rural (since they filmed the Twilight movie there I think it's become quite a hot spot). I remember NO ONE there spoke any English - even at the little tourist office we found off the main square. I think it was more a tourist spot for Italians. Anyway, as I said we were travelling on a student budget, so that could explain the meat discrepancy.
By the way, DH and I had our honeymoon in 2003 too, but we travelled around France instead of Italy.

I agree - I never met a dish I didn't like in Italy. French food? I could take it or leave it.

I loved Venice. Of course, I was there with a girlfriend, so there wasn't a lot of romance. However, I did meet a cute Italian boy there....
I still haven't posted yesterday's food:
7am: coffee
12pm: Shrirataki noodles with low sodium tomato sauce and a dusting of parmesan, 2 small peaches, fruit creme cookies, Sour Patch Kids
5:30pm: veggie quesadillas made with my no salt rice/black beans/tomato/cilantro concoction from a couple of weeks ago + cheddar cheese on corn tortillas with some fresh salsa and plain yogurt, chocolate wafer cookies
9pm: light vanilla ice cream with strawberries, green grapes, 2 digestive biscuits, low sodium chips
Tonight I'm going to a pizza party and my boys' school. I won't be able to avoid eating at least one slice of pizza, but will I be able to stop there? I doubt it. Tomorrow night I'm volunteering at the locak twin association's used clothing sale, and they'll be giving us pizza to eat there too. How can I avoid all this temptation??
