    Embarrassed Metformin Ladies

So I've been on Metformin for a while now, and it does help with my weight loss.

However ! The side effects are craaaazzzzzyyyyy - my stomach issues are epic on this medication.
How are other Metformin ladies coping with the side effects, or did they go away and if so after how long)

    Things I have tried :

Taking the meds with a full meal of protein and less fat
    Reducing the dose
    Taking the meds with carbs

None of the above makes a difference, so any tips would be awesome.

Honestly for me nothing has helped and I've been on it for about 2 months. I've lost 9lbs in total which is nice but now I barely eat anything. All I really eat is fruit & natural yogurt. Sometimes chicken with some vegetables. Don't drink alcohol or eat any carbs!! X

The best fruit I've found is melon and strawberries. Apples and pears good too. Xx

    Metformin Ladies

Long time met user here- take it in the middle of a meal. It helps if the meal has protein and fewer carbs. What's your dosage? Building up to the full dose over the course of a few weeks helps as well. Don't give up on it because the side effects will subside.
ETA: I've taken it now for several years and while the first few months can be tough- especially if you don't gradually increase the dose over time, I can take it now with just a few carbs (crackers) and have no nausea. Stick with it. It's a great drug. It has many many benefits for PCO.

    Hi,
I am pregnant and still on metformin. I am at 1500 daily. I still have good days and bad. It does start off with bad stomach pains and diarrhea. The pains get better but the diarrhea will stay. On my worst days i will take some immodium. I also try to avoid foods that affected me before the metformin because it can become severe on it. Hang in there ! It does help with the weight loss and becoming pregnant. I became pregnant on moderate to severe PCO on my third months use. Good Luck
