Confused Very short lh surge, odds of concieving after ovualting?

I wrote a month ago about I thought I wasn't ovulating. But I figured out by testing 3 to 4 times a day during fertile period that I am but it's very short, probaly 12 hrs or less after +opk. I had - opk at 10 pm previous Monday, +opk at 8am and -at 3pm. We didn't dtd the night bf bc it was still neg. so we dtd after I ovulated. I'm bummed that we missed it the night bf but we ended up with O+12. I'm guessing it was 9 hrs after O. Has anyone even became pregnant after Oing? I know it's a method ttc girl but I'm 40. Is it normal to O that fast after +opk. Is it a sign of getting older?

Just because your surge is short doesn't mean your ovulation is right away at positive just because it goes negative a few hours later. Have you charted your temps to confirm ovulation with respect to positive OPK?

No in haven't charted, I tried but I always forget ! If it goes neg then I assume I already ovulated is the incorrect? Can it go neg and I haven't ovulated yet?

Bunny is correct. Your OPK going negative does NOT mean you've Oed. About 30-40% of the time I have a fast surge like you, only one dark OPK around 3pm plus or minus a few hours. However, I know from temping and monitored cycles that I don't usually O until 36 hours after. Sometimes I even O 48+ hours after. It is unusual for me, and most people in general, to O the same day as my first positive.

Most likely you Oed 24-48 hours after your surge, and possibly you Oed even later. Without temping you can't know more precisely, but you probably BDed early enough to have a decent shot. I'd definitely try BDing earlier next cycle, ASAP after positive, just bc it takes time for sperm to capacitate and be capable of fertilisation. If you did in fact BD after you Oed your odds of conception are extremely low.

    My Ovulation Chart
currently TTC, Cycle #16 since last BFP

TTC #1 - swaying pink on & off since Nov 2013 - hoping for a girl first but excited for either!

Dec 2001 - May 2006 : 5 early abortions of healthy singletons (3 medical @5w, 2 surgical @8w, last 4 pregnancies conceived with late DH, all conceived while TTA/on birth control)
Mar 2012: miscarried B/G twins @5w (conceived 2 cycles after remověng Paraguard copper IUD while NTNP), one twin was ovarian ectopic

Me: 34, widowed, late O + short LP, normal-good hormone levels excepting undetectable testosterone, seeking a known sperm donor/life partner
My sway: vegetarian LE for over 28w, skipping breakfast, fibre (ground psyllium husks) with/before/between meals, physically inactive, drama avoidance, ocassional minimal YesBaby lube as needed, alternate cycles on low dose Clomid, double shot lattes (with meals)
Past sway tactics I've dropped (in order): Vitex, Sudafed, antihistamines, intermittent fasting, one attempt per cycle at positive OPK, one attempt in fertile period

The lenght of time OPK stays positive doesn't tell you when you ovulated. The two are totally unrelated. You can have a test go negative before you ovualte, or you can have your test stay positive even after you Oed.

Wow I didn't know that I stopped having a pinching feeling at 730 pm. I usually feel pinching cramping before and during O maybe after as well. When it stops I assume in Oed. We dtd at 10. So I'm hoping it worked but sounds doubtful. Next month well dtd when opk starts getting dark. I've missed it 3 months in a row now I have been using opk since aug and while doing "LE diet but man did my body change! Err!

O pain is totally unreliable as you can have it before, during, and after ovulation. I have had it for days after O sometimes.

Traci, I think your plan of Oing when OPK is "getting dark" is also not going to put you in with best shot. IF you've missed O 3 months in a row it is time to drop the OPK method because it is not working for you and go to every 4 days. In your case due to your age Id have you bump it up to e3d instead or do every 4 day plus one attempt at/around pos opk.
