Sooooo when I went to the midwife the other day, she said I was gaining too much weight. She also said it was probably a lot of water retention given my swelling and yet I'm still supposed to follow a more strict diet and work out more. I joined a gym so I could start swimming and have already started eating better (mostly) but geez, isn't this supposed to be a time where we can give in and make ourselves happy. I definitely gain more weight and swell more with girls - so far up 17 lbs which is 4 over the max I should have gained so far. Where is everyone else at?

I don't know in pounds but I was 83kg when we began, went down to about 78 with the first tri and now I'm sitting at about 81.5. So I'm still down, but since I'm only small height, I am already overweight and I really want to keep my weight gain down to just baby and blood and the other stuff. Lala, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Tbh, my midwives have never in four pregnancies weighed me. I weigh myself and they never ask. I just don't think it is that big a deal and that some practitioners get all hung up over what is a nothing.

Thanks bunches Bella...I think most of their concern revolves around the fact that I had a 10 lb baby last time, no gestational diabetes either just a huge baby. Lol. The more weight I gain and glucose I take in , the bigger the baby. His shoulder got stuck and we would like to prevent that but also I'm naturally very thin, and for me it just feels so unconformable being swollen and huge...how is it that we're only half way through and I'm already starting to feel uncomfortable?! I guess they're right when they say each pregnancy gets harder.

Ugh, that sucks
AFM, I am still down from my pre-preg weight. I've gained about 6 pounds from my preg low, still about 10 pounds below my starting though. I tend to gain the most during my 3rd tri though. With my first I gained 60 pounds (70 if u count the weight I lost and regained) almost entirely in the 3rd tri. With my youngest I gained 20 pounds, again mostly in the 3rd tri. I am about 5 weeks and a day from the 3rd tri mark this time so I am expecting my weight to start climbing again soon. I have always found it odd that I gain when I do given everything gets so tight in there that it gets hard to eat but that is how my body works for some reason *shrug* I am only supposed to gain 15 pounds so I am hoping to stay at, below or at least close to my starting weight but I am not holding my breath.

I HATE it when the tell you how much you're "supposed" to gain. I mean, there is not one size fits all. Sure do your best to eat healthy stuff, but I wouldn't even worry about a scale.
I hear you on the big baby, but honestly, how much you gain doesn't *really* directly affect the baby's size. I gained 45 lbs with my first son and ate whatever I wanted. He was just over 6lbs when born—so small he was swimming in his preemie clothes! I lost all the weight and then some in only 9 months afterward—no complications, easiest birth I've had by far. I only gained 17 lbs with my 3rd son, and he weighed in at almost 9 lbs, it was the hardest birth, and he's has had the most health complications. How much you gain really means very little in terms of your health and the baby's, IMHO.
As for me, I'm up 5 lbs from my pre-preg weight today. But I lost almost 7 in the beginning. And I was a bit on the heavy side to begin with, so I don't expect to gain as much someone who stated out thinner...though you never know!

I've gained 15-18 pounds (my dr may say more because I go in there with a full bladder and stomach). I started around 117 and am 26 weeks. With the swelling they are probably worried about preclampsia.

dpike sounds like we're in the same boat only you're 5 weeks ahead of me. Lol. Luckily, I'm tall so I can carry an extra 20 lbs and still look ok but I'm definitely not comfortable in my own skin right now and the veins.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to try to get them removed afterwards but the last time I tried the injections it didn't work.

Lala- my dr says I'm fine. I see why they watch so closely but seriously don't need to butt in too much. I gained 35 with my second and less with my first and lost it all within a month and 2 weeks with my first. I still work out most days and wear a size 2 still so they better not say anything to me!!!

Yeah I gained between 32 and 37 lbs with first two- ironically less with my 10 lb boy but I had so much less swelling and water retention so I'm sure that's why. I went into san francisco today and it was in the 60's instead of 100's and I had zero swelling..ahh it was nice.
