Had PCP Run My Hormones During Yearly Physical

Background for those that don't know me... Got pregnant in Nov 2015, found out baby had no heartbeat at 11 weeks after seeing heartbeat at 7 weeks, D&C end of Jan. got pregnant again middle of April and had a chemical.

Saw my PCP end of May for my yearly physical. I asked him while he was doing the blood draw if he would run my hormone panels as well. Everything came back normal except my testosterone being on the high end of normal, he said normal is 2-40 and mine was 30. So between that and my history of ovarian cysts he labeled it as PCOS and put me on metformin 500 mg once daily and 25 mg spironolactone 25 mg. (As a side note I used to take hydroxyzine for anxiety but we discussed that that was no longer working so he changed me to 0.5 mg of Xanax once nightly.)

Since my levels honestly weren't that high, do you think I should just continue to try like we have been or wait a few months on the meds? I got a solid positive ovulation test today with last BD being Sunday night so I'm not sure if we should BD again tonight or just try to wait it out for another month.

Both those things would sway pink (and we've gotten good results with them) HOWEVER spiro is not ok during pregnancy and MOST docs will not even allow you to be on it when TTC. You need to call the doc's office and/or your pharmacists because if you've been taking spiro you may not even be able to TTC safely this month at all.

I've looked around online and now I'm nervous to be taking it at all. Maybe I should drop the spiro and just stick with the metformin? I've only taken it for 11 days so far so I'm not sure if there would be any negative aspects already or not :/ I know you can't tell me what is best for me, but what would you do?

I would take it for 6-8 weeks and then come off it as per doc's orders for TTC.

We have had success with people who did that, not many, but it has seemed to work.

That having been said, that is ONLY if you are under 35-37 or so, and have the time to spare. If you're 38 and up I'd probably not waste the time out of the fertile window.

He said that I didn't need to wean when I was ready, I could just stop it cold turkey. He said he has safely seen patients continue the metformin however while pregnant. Do you think I should drop that one at the 6-8 weeks as well or continue it until I get a positive to help my levels through conception? I am only 27 so I do have time to spare, but I'd prefer to be pregnant within the next year and a half before my youngest goes to school.

Metformin is fine, its the spiro that is the problem.

I am not saying you need to wean off spiro, I'm saying that most doctors have people stop taking it 6-8 weeks before they TTC. Meaning that according to most sources you should not be on it for 1 1/2 to 2 months before you conceive, and I think we need to get some verification from either the doctor or the pharmacist, or both, that you are actively TTC and if they want you taking this medication and if so how and when should you stop it before pregnancy.

Since you do have the time to spare and I have seen 6-8 people get pregnant with girls after having taken the spiro, I'd certainly give it a shot since your T levels are elevated anyway. I'd take it for 2-3 months then come off it. If you're following one of the alt diets http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gend...rt-3-pcos.html and also additionally continuing with the met, your T levels will take time to come back so it would give ample time for you to reap the benefits of the spiro without the risks.

Basically, I'm saying it can help your sway and I've seen it work for people, but it's not safe when TTC and beyond not safe when pregnant, so I want to be sure that you have cleared it with doc and pharmacist about when to stop using it.
