Hi,
DH had really bad hayfever this year which just lingered and followed by chest Infection- antibiotics 3 weeks ago, but still needing antihistamine, inhaler occasionally for wheeziness. Should we wait a while, seems like he needs the antihistamine,
Is it better to wait until all is normal, have had a break for a while due to othe commitments. Any thoughts I ovulate in a week or so.

Personally, I would give him some Robitussin or Mucinex and proceed with my attempt!
PS - I am SO GLAD you asked this because somehow I never managed to Google this and I found out in some men with allergies and low sperm count, antihistamines actually helped RAISE their sperm count by killing off cells that were attacking the sperm themselves! WOW.
Thanks for another great question that helps improve quality of info for everyone.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Belle, I just found this out yesterday and did not have a chance to update.
The increase in sperm numbers is only in men who have allergic causes to low sperm count - their body is literally attacking the cells that produce sperm and diminishing the amount they make. Most men (and I'll wager, most men who have fathered several boys) do not have this situation.
Zyrtec in DH dries up the semen and thickens it and makes it harder to swim through, which in a normal guy would tend to sway pink because a guy without these severe allergies is producing plenty of sperm
Nutshell version -
For blue swayers, if hubby has severe allergies or low sperm count for unknown reasons or has fathered several daughters (NOT just one), antihistamine PLUS Robitussin/Mucinex at time of attempt is a good idea in case he has this condition where his body is attacking its own cells.
For pink swayers, if your hubby does not have allergies, has normal/high sperm count or has fathered several boys, it is probably just fine to have him take an antihistamine ALONE (pink swayers, never give husbands Robi/Muci). This will sway pink by thickening his semen and making it harder for sperm to escape (but may make it harder to become pg.) If your DH has severe allergies, even if you have one boy already, don't use the antihistamine because it may improve his count - if you have several boys then give him the antihistamine if you like because he probably doesn't have this sort of autoimmune condition.!!!
