Hey guys,
Would love your advice, please help x
I have ALWAYS wanted to be a mother, been a dream of mine, but when I go to TTC I start panicking.
I have a massive fear of actual pregnancy, of course the birth is scary but the thought of having something growing inside me freaks me out to the point of panic and I'm worried it's not normal to feel this way. Of course It's something to be grateful for but as much as I want to be a mother it's a fear
Would love any advice or any tips on how to get over this x
Thanks x

Scared of Pregnancy!

I am 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby and it is still weird to me. I don't see it as beautiful and magical, I think it is creepy there is a human inside my tummy and it still freaks me out that I will have a baby in no time. It just doesn't seem real. (And yes this pregnancy was planned).

Thank you GirlieCat
Don't get me wrong I want a baby desperately and am very maternal but I guess it's a small fear I was concerned about and I don't want to be weird. Curious if any other women felt/feel this way.

Yes, it's normal. I had this in-between my second and third child. A low dose (10mg) of citalopram got me over it in the end. I took it throughout my third pregnancy.

Sounds pretty normal. Growing a human is pretty intense. If the fear is strong enough that it is holding you back, you might benefit from a bit of counselling. But being afraid, especially as a first time mom, is normal.

It's called "tokophobia" and it's something a lot of women experience. If it's really out of control I'd talk to a doctor about it, but if you'd prefer not to, what I'd do is just gradually challenge yourself to get used to the idea. It's something most women have done at least once so it's certainly not something that is undoable, it's just a new and unique thing you haven't experienced yet. I promise you can do this!

I had this, I used to panic that I would want to get the baby out and I wouldn't be able to. Sounds crazy, I know! Nobody I spoke to understood at all. I am quite an anxious person anyway and a bit of a control freak ha ha. In the end I just went for it and it didn't feel anything like as scary as I thought, in fact it just felt completely natural x
