Folic Acid and Severe Morning Sickness

My morning sickness is so bad due to either having a vanishing twin or viable twins. I'll know for sure at my next scan in two weeks. That being said, I've been so sick that I sometimes haven't been able to take my Prenatal vitamins at times. I try to make sure to take two 800mcg of Folic acid twice a day, but I'm sure I've puked it up at times. How bad is this? I've been eating veggies and foods high in Folic acid just in case. I do take at least 1600mcg most of the time. It's only been a handful of times that I puked it up. I'm hoping it lets up soon! I just don't want to take anything since I had to take an antibiotic for a massive sinus infection early on!

    Thanks!

Sorry to hear you are suffering XX! I had HG on my first two little men and I could not stomach a prenatal vitamin on either, actually I couldn't tolerate folic acid on #2 and was hospitalized for fluids SEVEN times as anti nausea meds made me worse. Both of them are perfectly fine, DS1 is top of his class and DS2 has the speech of a 6 year old despite only just turning 3. What I'm saying is try not to beat yourself up. You are doing your best for your baby, you take your folic religiously which stays down more often than not and you did before your BFP too. You are eating as much vitamin rich foods as you can. I think you are doing great!! Have you tried sipping on ice cold fizzy full fat coca cola for the nausea? I'd have to have a full can first thing every morning before I felt ok enough to even stand up. If it's any help at all my nausea and general sickness always peaked between weeks 9-11 before easing again so hopefully you are at the worst part of it now xx

Do not fret! You are doing your best! Whilst taking folic acid is v important for preventing spina bifida (so 100% it should be taken if at all possible), remember it is only a relatively recent recommendation... women have been having completely healthy babies for many thousands of years when the mothers were living in appalling conditions with very little in the way of nutrition (think of many developing countries - I doubt most mums living in toewnships have access to folic acid, and yet I would also bet that most babies are fine when born). Babies are extremely successful little parasites - they take what they need from mama and leave us the rest do what you can manage honey xxx

It's not bad, just keep trying and your body will take what it needs.
