    exercise?

    does cleaning a house & chasing after a toddler count as cardio?? lol

    unfortunately it doesn't seem to. Has to be dedicated cardio going for 60 min. Now you can add other stuff onto that and it will only help.

    Does it have to be 60 minutes? I take spinning and it's a 45 minute class, does that count or not good to do?

    Ya could walk a few laps for a warmup and cooldown before/after spin class to make 60 minutes....ok really only wanted to post to say love your username totesmagoat

    I'm a physical therapist and I'm guessing what you want to be doing with the exercise is burning a high percentage of fat. You can do this by increasing your heart rate to 60-70% of maximum. Max heart rate is 220-your age. I can achieve this with brisk walking but it varies.

    You might be able to do this cleaning if it was energetic.

    Maybe you could keep your heart rate up for 15 mins at the end of the class by going for a brisk walk, or starting with a brisk walk?

    Spinning is pretty intense, so I'd continue with that and then yeah maybe just keep kind of active before or after. What you shouldn't do is eat a Snickers before class, then exercise 45 min, and have a sub sandwich right after.

    The point is that after about 45 min your body starts burning stores of fat as fuel, and the effects DO last a while after exercise, provided you don't immediately give your body a bunch of carbs to use instead.

    I usually eat a fiber one bar before I go, it's around 140 calories. The class is early in the AM, not sure I could skip breakfast on those days and not puke in class ha! If I had to eat, would that be okay? Or choose something else? Right now I go 2x a week and do other cardio on the other days, which is a full 60 minutes. How many times a week should cardio be done? 5 days?

    It's fine to do that. What some people will do is eat before they exercise then right after they exercise and it just doesn't have the same effectiveness as giving your body some time to burn those stores off.

    If you're already doing exercise 60 min most days then I'd just do the spinning for 45 min. those days and not worry about it.
