hCG Levels and Sex of the Fetus

Atomic, I just saw this online and curious if you think there is any truth to it?

hCG Levels and Sex of the Fetus
Women who had a female fetus had hCG levels significantly higher than women who carried a male fetus.

This finding is consistent with that found by several other researchers. In a study published by Yaron Y et al in Human Reproduction the authors studied 1,325 pregnant women with singleton pregnancies at 10-13 weeks.and compared different hormone levels including the pregnancy hormone hCG human chorionic gonadotropin between women carrying a male and a female fetus

These findings may have implications not only on evaluating risks of Down syndrome (women carrying female fetuses had a higher risk for Down syndrome), but also on timing of a pregnancy test. If women carrying a male fetus have lower hCG levels then it may be possible that their first positive urine pregnancy test could be delayed because of the male gender.

Yes, there is something to it but the problem is that it's not reliable.

These numbers work like height. They're averages. Meaning, the average man is taller than the average woman, but when you get down to the individual level, if you're looking at someone who is 5ft. 8 in. tall, you have NO IDEA if that person is male or female. Most people fall in that middle range and it tells you nothing. And even if the person was 6 feet or 5 ft. 4, you would still not be able to know for sure. You could have a WNBA player or a supermodel, or a (male) jockey. You cannot tell a person's gender from height alone, you can make a sightly more educated guess but it just doesn't really help anything.

And from your pregnancy tests? fugedabouddit. I have a full explanation/debunk of that idea in this thread (this is the second page, my reply is here) http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gend...cy-test-2.html

Very interesting! I didn't take my test with my DS till I was 7 weeks, I knew I was pregnant but wasn't ready to admit it to myself even though we were trying! So obviously that was a extreme positive right away.

    Sorry for the repeat post

Oh no worries, nice to have things come up now and then and then people who may not have seen the explanation can read it.
