Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone out there has conceived after having the Mirena coil that could share their experiences.
Basically we’ve decided to start TTC as soon as my partner arrives back from his 10 day trip at the end of September, so we’ve agreed that I should have my coil removed while he’s gone.
The only appointments I can get at the clinic are either on the day he returns, or 7 days before he returns.
I know that catching the first egg after Mirena removal can be a good pink sway, so part of me thinks I should leave it as late as possible so I don’t risk ovulating while he’s away and missing that first egg (I have no idea where I am in my cycle as I have no AF with Mirena).
However, I also know that I should expect a withdrawal bleed, possibly pain or discomfort… and part of me thinks I might as well have that happen while he’s away as it would interrupt BD anyway. And after 10 days apart I’d prefer not to waste any time, whether it affects TTC or not (I mean, he gets back on his birthday too…)!
I know that in the end, everyone is different and nobody can really tell me what’s best in our situation! But I was wondering what your experiences were like with Mirena, such as how long you had a withdrawal bleed for, how soon afterwards you ovulated, how long it took to TTC, etc.
Also, what was your removal like? I’m a little bit nervous. I’m hoping it isn’t as bad as having it put in, which was SO painful and had me curled up into a ball for 24 hours afterwards.
I know it’s a fairly minor thing with it only being a week difference, but I just can’t decide which appointment to go with!
Thank you all in advance for any thoughts.

I think you should do the 7 days beforehand to avoid any side effects. I do not know anyone who Oed that fast after having it removed (sooner than 7 days I mean, a few have gone 7-10 days after but not that often)

Thanks Atomic, that puts my mind at rest somewhat. It helps that I have some time off work that week, so if the side effects are too bad at least I can suffer them at home!

I got my mirena out last month, hurt a smidge coming out but it was quick and nothing at all like the insertion! The first 2 days after removal, nothing happened. Then I had a light withdrawal bleed for 3 days with mild cramping. After that, I was testing once a day with opk strips and I never got a positive, a few times it was close and getting darker but never positive. Not sure if I missed the surge only testing once a day or if I screwed something up! But now I just started a period, 30 days after IUD removal. As you said, everyone is different, I have heard a lot of people have a long cycle after removal so I was surprised to see that mine was normal, too bad that I missed the egg though!

Thanks gwynn, it's really reassuring to hear personal experiences like yours! A lot of what you find on google about Mirena is just the horror stories so I'm glad it doesn't hurt too much coming out.
It's great that your cycle went straight back to normal, that's really reassuring and I'm sure you'll see your BFP soon! What time of day were you testing with OPKs? I'm a bit iffy about them (I've tried them out while having Mirena but never had a positive, some sources say it stops ovulation and some say it doesn't?!) so I would worry about missing the egg too. I have a stash of them so will probably start using them once I've seen first AF (hopefully within a normal timeframe like yours!) but do E4D until then just in case.due Sept 2018

I had mine removed, no bleeding and AF returned after 6 weeks. But maybe breastfeeding affected that as if just stopped that at same time :/

I had mine removed on 5th July 2 days later I started to bleed which actually turned out to be my period. I was also hoping to catch first egg that cycle, I got +OPK cd20. That cycle turned out to be a 35 day cycle and I didn't conceive. This cycle I got +opk on cd15 and I'm currently cd28 and got my bfp days ago. Good luck ttc x

Thank you for sharing your experiences, I really appreciate it.
Congratulations on your BFP HappyLea! What wonderful news, you must be thrilled to have conceived so soon after removal.
I'm really ready for my appointment to roll around now, just a couple more weeks to wait. Had no problems with Mirena since the painful insertion (almost 2 years ago) but for the past week or so I've been getting cramps and it's making me nervous about what's going on in there!due Sept 2018

Congrats HappyLea!!! So awesome!
With your cramps, I'm sure it's normal, I'd bet either your sway is starting to get things going or you're just hyperaware and noticing things you didn't notice before. For my first cycle off the IUD, I swear I could detect some cramp or uterine sensation every single day!

Oh that is TOTALLY possible! The closer we get to our TTC date, the crazier I'm getting. I'm over-analysing every little thing so I'm sure you're right, it's all probably completely normal!
