Do you think once every 24 hrs lowers sperm count or do you think it improves it? I have recently heard and read that every 24 hrs is better for sperm count/quality? We are waiting to O which would happen in 5-10ish days so have started getting DH to release every 24 hrs, today is the 3rd day and we noticed the amount of liquid he expelled sorry TMI lol, was not very much as he has when we doesn't dtd for a few days? Do you think this matters?

We were going to try getting dh to release every 24 hrs and than few days before O get him to hold it for a few days till ovulation and then go.

my DH says his quantity released after 24hrs is pretty much the same as normal. It has to be less than that for him. When we were TTC with my son we were desperate to get pregnant so I researched things to up my chances (not knowing that swayed blue) and I learned that the optimum time to DTD was every 36hrs for the best sperm count.

DS1 every 2nd day from cd7. DS2 just once 3 days before ovulation.

With DS1: Every day for the 7 days before ovulation except the day before hand. And then on the day of ovulation too.
DS2: Every day for 3 days before ovulation plus the day of ovulation.

If you DTD every day for 7-10 days at least once and possibly even more, it lowers sperm count but may keep sperm quality high. DTD LESS than 7-10 days may raise sperm count - longer/more reduces sperm count more.

Personally, if I was swaying blue I would NOT ever ever ever have my DH release for more than 2 or 3 days in a row. 4-5 days is pushing your luck.

The people saying 24 hours for sperm count and quality are talking about having enough sperm on hand to fertilize an egg. And most guys DO have enough sperm to BD every 24 hours and still get a woman pregnant (and for sure, release every 24 hours is good for sperm quality, at least when compared to abstaining). But we are talking about wanting to have absolute max numbers of sperm if we can for TTC blue, KWIM? Just having enough sperm isn't enough - we need more than enough, haha.

RE: amount of semen. You can def. have high numbers of sperm in a small amount of semen and also low numbers in a high amount of semen. Of course, your best bet for maximizing numbers would be to aim for high numbers of sperm in a high amount of semen because all things being equal and the concentration of sperm staying the same between the two samples, more semen will have more sperm than less semen does, altho there is no guarantee that the concentration DOES stay the same. Just so everyone knows, there's no way to simply look at your husband's semen quantity and tell if your sway is working or not. There is always some natural variation in the amount of semen a guy produces and just because a guy produces a small amount (even all the time) you cannot tell whether or not he is producing a lot of sperm or not. Some guys produce mega-semen and have very little living sperm in it as well.

To answer the original q with all four of my boys we had regular BD but not every day for days on end. Like we'd do it maybe 2 days in a row, skip a day or two, do it again, skip a day or two, do it two more days in a row...overall our consistent pattern has been 3-5 events of intercourse a week, prob. perfectly timed for maximum sperm count . I can't O every day in a row and DH gets bored sometimes if I don't O, so it's every other day usually, sometimes two days in a row if we sneak in a quickie or BJ (sorry for TMI!) Some days we have even had twofers, then missed a couple days afterwards.
