Big Smile Abstain length & conception odds

    Hi Atomic,
We've had a thread going via private message for some time but I want to post a thread here in hopes of getting a quicker response due to my current situation, and perhaps others have a similar question-

DH is on day 7 of abstain and today is CD13 for me. I still have not gotten a positive OPK. I'm worried about making him abstain any longer if I still don't get a positive by tomorrow.
Let's just say I still don't have a positive opk tomorrow, is it ok to have him abstain for 10 days?
I have seen recently where you've stated that both abstain & FR can cut odds of conception.
I also can't help but think of your "jelly bean factory" explanation of abstain. That explanation makes me fearful of letting DH release, and then have our attempt within less than 3 days of his last release... (let me explain further incase that got confusing)-
I worry that if I let him release on his own today, and then I do happen to get a positive OPK tomorrow and we end up needing to make our attempt, that his jelly bean factory will have more blue swimmers in it

Last month was our first attempt where we waited to dtd at first positive OPK, and for whatever reason it failed to get me pregnant (The abstain time frame last month ended up being 6days) -So now for this month I'm really hoping to get pregnant, but I still don't want to add in anymore than one attempt. I guess I'm just concerned now about DHs length of abstain having negative effects on our chance to conceive

UPDATE: at 9pm tonight I got a positive OPK, so we decided to BD tonight and call it a day! Just hoping the 7 day abstain on top of all other sway tactics we've added in don't hinder our chance ...
    Comments still appreciated! Xx

people abstain up to 10 days all the time or even 14.

abstain has not even worked for people really well so please don't fear having him release once and then resume abstaining.

Hi! As far as abstain not working for people what do you mean? Meaning it's not even swaying pink anymore? But it once was? In my sway plan it was recommended that we do either abstain or FR, and we had chosen to go the route of abstain, so to hear that it's not even working is confusing and discouraging.
Especially after reading the 'jelly bean factory' explanation... I felt like that made abstain make sense in my mind for how it can potentially sway pink.

Theoretically it is supposed to sway pink, and in our results has always gotten better than 50-50, but it is significantly lower than the overall success rates of the site and does not seem to really be adding much of anything. So I keep it around becuase some people want to try everything possible to sway. I have those who can, in the custom plans, start off with using it and then we drop it among the first things.

Some of these things may sway a bit but have downsides to them. In the case of abstain, it may sway a little, like if we took 1000 couples and tested them it might sway a few %. But at the same time it really cuts odds of conception by a LOT. And since one attempt is MUCH more effective without being as hard on odds of conception. So at some point (and this is for you to decide) we start to focus only on the things that have swayed strongly with the least impact on odds of conception. This means that things like abstain need to go sooner rather than later - once we try them we let them go and then everyone can rest easy that they have tried all the various tactics and then let them go.
