Why did your doctor give you Clomid/Femara?

    Hi!

I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday and wondered what I could say that may lead them to prescribe Clomid or Femara.

I’m 40 and have PCOS. Been TTC for three years, but was using Shettles so was often too early to fall pregnant. I’ve had a couple of miscarriages in that time so not sure if they wouldn’t prescribe either because I can fall pregnant naturally, and quickly when our try is close enough to ovulation.

Any experiences or advice greatly received! Thanks!

So I never actually got the chance to take it (found out I was pregnant right before) but my RE was going to prescribe me femara because of my irregular cycles and unexplained losses. I've been pregnant six times in six years so no trouble conceiving, I just have had trouble holding onto them for whatever reason. Since you have PCOS, have been unable to stay pregnant and due to your age, I think there's a good chance the doc will prescribe you something.

Thanks ksmom. I’ll make sure I raise those things as issues when I see my doctor.

I read your sway and I know how good it was. I know we’re only ever going to be able to sway up until a point, and there will always be opposites, but it really makes me nervous.

When I was pregnant with my second son and found out at my scan, I did feel a little disappointed, but nothing major. I see the relationship my two boys have and I’m so pleased I had a second boy and not a girl, as they have such a close relationship. I feel like Mother Nature knew what I wanted (needed) better than I did. I guess we are sent what we need.

At 40 and with 3 years TTC under your belt you NEED medication to help you.

Don't tell them about using Shettles. None of their business. Tell them your age, how long you've been trying, and that you have had some losses. They should give you the medication because it's medically indicated for you.

So I saw my doctor. (I’m in the UK.) She said they can’t prescribe fertility medicine like Clomid and she can’t refer me to a specialist as I already have children. I’ve contacted a private doctor online so I’ll see what they say.

I must admit, it does scare me to take Clomid. The private doctor sent me some info to read which includes the side effects and possible links to cancer. I looked into it more and found that it couldn’t be proven that there was a link as no account was taken of the fact that women who are infertile for other reasons, could be at a higher risk of cancer.

It is because the women who take it are on average older and have other medical issues going on that may predispose them for cancer. the people who are given Clomid are not given it for fun or swaying, it's for actual medical reasons and these reasons are linked to higher risks of cancer.

I would not recommend it to you ladies if I hadn't fully investigated this link and dismissed it.

At 40, since you are going thru a private doc you may want to have Femara instead, it does the same thing and is better for women in that age group
