    HSG procedure and experiences?

    Hi Girls,

I have an appointement for HSG this weekend. I am terrified that its very painful. Please share your experiences. Was it painful? Is it possible to open the tubes via this test?

    TIA

I had one a couple of years ago, the same cycle I conceived DS3. I had heard horror stories so of course I was freaking out about it. It's actually not bad at all. I told the nurse beforehand how scared I was and she talked me through the entire process before and during so if you're afraid, let them know! I'm sure they would be more than happy to put your mind at ease. They put me in a hospital gown then I laid on a table with my legs bent. The radiologist inserted the tube which I barely felt then sent the dye through the tube. I got to see all the x-rays from it after and even have a CD of them as a keepsake. lol I felt no pain, just slightly uncomfortable...kinda like when you have gas and you feel some pressure. I had the HSG done right after my period had finished but it did make me spot for a few days after. The nurse told me this is normal and not to worry. Some of the dye will leak out too, it's pretty gross! No discomfort really afterward that I can remember, just spotting. The nurse did say if you've never given birth before, some women feel cramping but it's like period cramping. I also took an ibuprofen a few hours beforehand which they said helps with any discomfort during the procedure.
Yes, the HSG can actually unblock your tubes depending on the severity. The radiologist told me that he thinks I may have had a bit of debris in the way even though the dye spilled out of my tubes nicely. Good luck with your HSG! Let me know how it goes!

I have had two done. One right before conceiving DD2 and then one June of 2017. I don’t think they are that bad either. Just some mild cramping/discomfort when they are injecting the soulution. Luckily I also didn’t have much spotting or bleeding afterwards either. HTH GL!

I have had two done -- like others, I found it fine. I think the women who have great pain are those who haven't been in labor or gotten to the third trimester before, because of going through the cervix. That is just an observation though.

    Hi Ladies,

I just want to update you that my test went well. My both tubes are open.

In first round, they could only capture my left tube, that also not compketly. But in the second round they were able to see my both tubes.

Procedure was not very painful, they gave me pain killer before starting.

    Thanks to all of you
