    Shettles & BD Time

    Hi Ladies,

For those of you that still want to give/gave Shettle's a shot for TTC girl, I have a question.
Exactly when do you time BD so as to maximize the chance of pregnancy, but within the Shettle's realm?

I originally thought of trying the day before the first +OPK. But now I'm in a hurry to get pregnant in June (for potential travel reasons).
Do I do abstain + 1 attempt at + OPK? I tend to ovulate about 24-28 hours after the first + OPK. Is this too close to ovulation for a girl?

    Thanks

Can I ask a question first? How are you going to predict when you're a day before positive OPK?

Good question! Usually I always get peak +OPK on CD17. And I also just eyeball it with the darkness of the lines. So in my estimate, the day before +OPK, would be when the test line is no longer faint, and not at it's darkest. (Sorry, if that's confusing).
I understand that it's all just an estimate, based on historical data, in reality. And without an U/S, there is really no way to pinpoint exact ovulation.

No not confusing at all, and fine to try it since you're clearly knowledgeable about it all. IT's when people don't have any experience and they're trying to do things that way I have concerns that the stress of it all will totally outweigh any info they can glean and since timing does not work anyway, I just feel like some are better off not bothering with it.

So now to answer your original q's: I would not have you go any further than that day before pos OPK. That would likely be, worst case, 3 day cutoff max. I find anything longer than 3 day cutoff has such poor chances of conception that it's pointless to even try to do it and the people who think they conceive that way, most of them have simply ovulated sooner than they thought they did in the month they conceived. So yes start off with aiming for day before pos OPK if you are trying for Shettles and have 24-48 hours before O occurs. But technically the BD at pos OPK is still Shettles cutoff timing for a girl for most people, most months.

Re whether to do abstain or not, that's at your discretion. It WILL reduce odds of conception and it hasn't worked. So that leaves you doing two things that will cut odds of conception and haven't worked (timing and abstain) and one thing that has worked but does cut odds of conception at least somewhat (one attempt) This is fine to start off this way, but I strongly suggest dropping both abstain and timing before adding attempts.

Thanks atomic! Everything I learnt to do, I credit this site and you, really!

AND, this is why I need you! I don't want to add too many things that lower the odds of conception (because I do want to try to conceive in June). So I will do the cutoff (either day before +OPK or day of +OPK, whichever I end up detecting first).
I will also do 1 attempt ( that is only one attempt at pregnancy, in fertile window)

Now if I drop the 'abstain' part of it, what does this exactly mean? I think that means that DH should release on his own, or we BD with condom few times, leading up-to the 1 attempt. Is this correct? (Ugh sorry, sometimes I can't believe I'm typing these things in a forum . I suppose, the same for you, haha)

Anyway, thanks in advance. Feeling good about my sway, and not freaking out about things I can't control!

You can either have him release on his own or with you, with a condom, every 2-4 days, OR just let him "do what he does".
Either way will be better for conception than abstain and plus it saves your "husband currency" to spend on other things.

Yes sometimes I think OMgosh I can't believe I'm writing this...but then I think, well, I've written worse! LOL!
