Thread: SALT Question?

  1. #11
Studies are also showing that if the salt isn't stripped of everything else (ie processed down to just sodium), it doesn't have the same effect that just plain sodium salt does on blood pressure.

We personally use Real Salt which has other minerals in it too. I take a iodine supplement a couple of times a week too. If you eat tons of seafood you may not need more iodine. Thyroid issues (or obviously goiter) can indicate iodine deficiency, but lots of women with thyroid problems are also eating regular stripped down sodium table salt that has iodine added.

I think salting to taste is the best option for salt. Your body does a good job of letting you know what you need by how your food tastes. Just my opinions!

I will look into getting an iodine supplement to take so. As I looked in 3 different supermarkets and the health store and couldn't find the iodised salt.

That's too bad Pearl, it's crazy in the US the regular table salt (the one with iodine) is the easiest to find. It doesn't even always say it in the title, but says it contains iodine in the ingredients part.

I NEVER used salt before, really and truly never cooked with it, not even in baking recipes when it calls for some. Now I am salting a hard boiled egg every morning. Also, I made zucchini carrot fritters yesterday and salted the zuchinni before to help drain the water and I never used to do that.
On that note, I also mixed Greek yogurt with avocado and garlic and lemon juice for a topping for them and the whole meal was delicious. I will try to post recipe

I totally believe you, and I appreciate knowing that because I assumed it was widely available but it clearly isn't!!

I agree skrimpy - salting to taste while TTC boy - Forcefeeding yourself salt to the point of making yourself ill - not ok and not supported by the facts anyway because your body just excretes excess salt.

Oh and when I had postpartum hypertension, before i was diagnosed I noticed that eating salty foods seemed really off-putting and disgusting to me. Within a week I was in the hospital with blood pressure of 200 over 120. Then once I got better, salty stuff tasted normal again. Our bodies really do have wisdom!!!

So I got my Iodine supplement. Each tablet contains 150ug's the directions say take 1-3 per day but also that each tablet contains 100% of the RDA. How much should I take.

I also found that the only place to buy iodized salt is in Lidl which is a budget German supermarket and it imports in its German brand of iodized salt.

Aaa I think I misread this in your other thread, if one pill has 100% RDA, then just take ONE, not two. I thought you were saying that all three together was 100%.

I'm not a huge salt eater usually either. I only ate a lot of salt with DS 3 and then DD!
