In Australia the recommendation is to bf until 12mths old. But I do know how you feel. My dr knew that I wanted to try for one more child and was telling me to stop bf at 6mths old and then try, because of my age. She was saying basicly you are getting too old the first 6mths are the most important yada yada you should stop and try to get pregnant then (rather than for the sway). She and my endoctrinologist (who I had to c as I had gestational diabetis with dd2) firmly beleive that one should not ttc while bf. I did try anyway but did not get pg, but I was not monitoring o so who knows. Then I found out about swaying and stopped trying. But I decided to keep going with bf until 12 months at least. I also had 2 m/c between dd1 and 2 and did not want to wean at 6mths because I thought what if I do get pg and have another m/c I will never forgive myself it was soooo hard to get the bf right. DD2 was definitely loosing interest from about 11 months and preferred drinking from a cup with a straw, so it was not hard to stop at almost 13 months. Loved the bf though it is sort of a conitnuation of the pregnancy isn't it? I suppose you are not actually going on the girl diet and bf as that would not be good for your bf or for your fertility was what I was trying to say and also that personally I don't think that bf sways as such but that is my opinion only from experience of friends and is not based on any scientific research or similar. GL again and hope you will get your baby girl.

I TOTALLY agree and I was very thankful I didn't stop breastfeeding when it took me several months to get pg with DS 4.

Oh and I just wanted to let everyone know that my doc had no prob. with me conceiving while breastfeeding and I even bf throughout pg and tandem nursed, at the age of 38/39. Different doctors will advise different things based on their training, so always do your own research and decide what feels right for you.

These are my thoughts too I've gotten pregnant while nursing a toddler, 2 times now and I was able to nurse another 4 months after getting pregnant before they weaned(milk supply totally disappeared). I know that this time around, with swaying, I could have a much better sway if I weaned him(he's 13mos) but it's just not worth it to me. I feel the health of the child here with me now is more important than the potential of pregnancy.....and 2 different tries have left me with a BFN so I'd really be upset if I had weaned him. The WHO recommends beyond 2 years of bf and so far I've made it to 21mos with DS1, 20mos with DS2 and I'd really love to make it to the 2 year mark Hopefully I can with last 2 kiddos!
