    They're not actually 100%.

The unfortunate slim margin of error lies with the blood test picking up the mom's XX. When there are errors, it's usually the accidental belief it's a girl because of this.

It's SO rare though. OP, have you gotten another blood test done?

I've contacted them to ask if they will re-test so I'll see what they say. I was also thinking of having a 4d scan - do you know how accurate they are?

A 4d scan can't hurt, I would say it was fairly accurate.... But then again I would have thought the blood test was very accurate lol

I'm so so sorry Hun. I hope you can get a rescan or another blood test. You must be so distraught right now and I can't even imagine. I hope the scan was just a funny angle or something and baby is all girl.

I really don't know what I would do in your position.... I trust blood tests more than ultrasounds, but there have been wrong results before with them, very rarely though compared to ultrasounds.
The truth is that only after birth we can be 100% sure about gender. I hope the u/s tech was wrong.

    It's a girl!!!

With the blood test being one of the home test kit types I would be a little more wary of trusting that result, especially as 5% is quite a large margin of error. I think another scan and even a harmony or panorama test would help to clear it all up. Good luck, sorry you're in this position xx

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I hate to say but I don't think the results of the blood test you did are brilliant - even with Harmony which is way superior I still don't think it's 100% guarnateed, although 99.9..... I had a friend who used a cheap gender test (under £200 in the UK when I was pg with my DD and had an opposite - the other way round though, obviuosly don't know if it's the same one). If I was you and so you don't drive yourself nuts worrying I'd book another u/s at somewhere very good eg. Faetal Mecial Centre in Harley Street The Fetal Medicine Centre
    - and explain what has happened and that you really need to know the gender. Good luck and I really hope it's wrong and you get your girl. x

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry you're going through this. How absolutely heart-breaking to be pulled back and forth like that! I would definitely book another scan if you can. I don't think 4D are very accurate for gender but usually they also have 2D capabilities so I'm sure they would check that as well.
I know sonographers can be wrong but usually it's that they say girl when it's actually a boy but I have read that a cord can cause confusion and also swollen labia. I so hope the blood test was right.

Blood tests done in the lab are VERY RARELY incorrect. Ultrasounds are incorrect all the time. Do you ahve some pics we can see???

Edited to add - the at home tests can be incorrect more than the lab test.

Is the blood test a lab test (Nipty or Nifty test like Harmony) or did you do it yourself at home??? Those are less reliable.
