I'm taking 1800 of folate from supplements assuming I'm getting the rest from my diet. Not sure if I should do more now though with my RPL

I had a baby with a neural tube defect when I was taking 800 mcg and eating a very healthy diet. I know some sources say take only 400 but that did not prevent my son's NTD and many sources have pregnant women take 800-1000 mcg a day just as a matter of course. Additionally some people on here are drinking green tea or taking other supplements that actually cause a depletion of folic acid and so I stand by the 2000.
After you have a baby with an NTD you are PRESCRIBED by doctors in US, UK, and AUS. to take 4000-5000 mcg daily in the first trimester. So I took it two times with my two subsequent pregnancies and neither are autistic nor have an NTD.
I have read the study you are referring to and that was levels of folic acid in the mother's blood****** at birth. These women had some inability to get rid of folic acid that is NOT SHARED by most people. Most of us just pee it right out with no issues. Additionally, we wean off the folic acid at the end of the first trimester. We do not continue with the higher dose to birth or even much beyond the first tri. So I do not believe this is in any way a concern or issue.
If you're worried about it, just take folate instead. It is better tolerated even by those who have the inability to get rid of folic acid and it works great fore veryone.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

There was one study that found these massively high levels of folic acid and B12 at the END of a pregnancy, at the time of birth were linked to autism. But what's more these levels could not have developed if the woman's body was functioning normally. IT isn't supposed to build up in your body like that and the women were not necessarily even taking large doses of the stuff, it just built up inside their bodies for reasons no one knows.
Since we wean off of the folic at the end of the first trimester anyway none of this is relevant to our sway methods.
Anyone concerned, take folate. Folate is better. The problem is, it's massively expensive and most people do just fine on folic acid. If I insisted on folate, lots of people who can't afford it won't take anything, and unlike all this speculation folic acid/folate is 100% proven to prevent NTD that is the cause of many, many miscarriages and birth defects.Last edited by atomic sagebrush; October 16th, 2017 at 03:39 PM.

Sorry that must have been my error. The folate tabs are 400ug so i was taking 2 of them and the multivit has 300ug of folic acid.
I'll take 4 tabs of the folate to make 1600ug plus the 300ug of folic acid will bring me to 1900 of a Mix of folate and folic acid. Is that enough or should I take another folate tab to bring me to 2000ug folate and 300ug folic acid from multivit?

No I'm sure it was me, I read tons of posts and some days I do make the occasional error, apologies!
1900 is enough. There is no magic to the 2000, I have to pick a number but 1900 is close enough.

Omg I have completely confused myself with this !! I’ve just realised My folic acid is 400 ug (the funny international symbol for the u) so it’s not 400 mcg ... I’m so confused what does 400 ug convert to mcg ??
