So I have just come back from my GP and she has put me on Sertraline 50mg to start, then review after a month.
Any advice on how this antidepressant drug sways? Has anyone successfully got a girl while taking antidepressants? Not that I would really want to take them any more if I became pregnant.
Deep down, I know my anxiety is derived from wanting a daughter so bad, it affects everything in my life. I just don't want to be a failure, which puts even more pressure on my desire. It sucks!!

That is Zoloft which is what I was on. I think antidepressants sway pink.
I was on about 50mg or 25mg when I conceived DS2 but I wasn't swaying at all. It is considered to be safe to take in pregnancy, and 50mg is a pretty low dose. It you do want to wean when pregnant then drop to 25mg for a few weeks and then do it every other day. It gives weird side effects if you stop to suddenly (feels like brain zaps).
Just be prepared for some increased anxiety when you start taking it but it does start to helpGood luck!

Thanks Purple. I have been reading horror stories linked to autism and now feel terrified to start them. I just couldn't deal with a special needs child on top of the anxiety I have. I admire parents who do, they are so strong. I have been on a low dose of antidepressants when I was in my 20's, but never while actively trying for a baby. Oh man, I wish I could find a safer option I feel comfortable with.. I am feeling really scared now. My GP said it was safer for someone to be on them if they were suffering from anxiety, then for someone not to be when pregnant, because pregnancy comes with all its own issues too.
I am going to finish this cycle before starting them. I know my anxiety gets so much worse in the tww.
Do u still take them? How did you gets past your anxiety and get your girl purple.2004:

I think everything is said to cause autism these days. I have even read articles suggesting ultrasounds cause it too but I really think the higher rates of autism are due to better awareness and support.
I wasn't taking it when I was pregnant with DS1 and he has high function autism. I took the medication all through DS2's pregnancy and he doesn't have autism. While we do have some extra challenges with DS1 he isn't that much more difficult than other kids, although we are probably lucky his is fairly mild.
Currently I'm not taking anything, I have been off them for about 3 years. Keeping up with regular exercise really helped my mental health. Anxiety for me tends to happen when I have big changes in my life or am worried about something major in the future.
It is up to you what you decide to do but I know it did affect my cycles and delayed ovulation so it was important for me to avoid anxiety when ttc. I would take it again if I needed it.

^^^^^^^ This x a million!
They have no idea what causes autism! Trust me if it was as easy as "zoloft = autism" they'd have cracked that nut already. I know tons and tons of people who lived like vegetarian nuns during pregnancy and have autistic kiddos. In the meantime I worked at a dog kennel and washed dogs with pesticide soap all day while a crop duster passed by overhead dousing the field next door(for realz, not making that up) for the whole first tri of one of my pregnancies and he's totally normal.
Antidepressants seem to all sway pink.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!
