So what we may need to do is to not only have you take folate, but to AVOID things with folic acid added to them. This is stuff like breads, cereals, pastas, and even things you may not expect like coffee drinks, power bars, etc. Check the label and skip anything that has FA added to it. We should also add in the lowest dose B12 you can find 2x a week.

Ok - yea I remember reading posts on here of you telling others with MTHFR to avoid folic acid. It seems pretty tough to do since it seems like it's in everything
I haven't heard from the doc yet but think I may call today to see what she thinks about that result. I've been reading that there are different degrees of severity with the mutation, based I guess on if you have the mutation from both parents or just one. What's crazy to me about this is that with DS1, I was taking a prenatal w/ folic acid plus eating a TON of cereal, breads, pasta - all of that. So I'm wondering how it didn't affect me/ the pregnancy then. Who knows. Anyways - I'll update you after I hear from the doctor.

I wonder the same thing about conceiving my boys too ABC! I didn’t know I had the gene back then either.
Interesting about the b12. It helps with absorption I’m guessing atomic?

Emshe - do you have a MTHFR mutation too?
I talked to the RE's office this afternoon and the person who gave me all my results said that there are two types of MTHFR mutations and the type that I have is not a big deal, it's not something they treat at all! It's apparently the other type that they are concerned about and recommend high folate for, and that basically my result should be considered "normal". Huh?! So now I'm a little confused. Going to hopefully ask the RE more questions about it when I have the uterus ultrasound in a few weeks.20132015

I know mine is the A1298C but I don't know if it is homozygous or heterozygous. My online record said "single mutation", so maybe it's heterozygous? I spoke to the RE's assistant today, not the RE so wasn't able to ask as many questions as I wanted to. Do you do anything treatment-wise for yours? Do you take baby aspirin?

I haven’t taken aspirin, I used clexane with my HT BFP but still lost her. I don’t know that it was this though as i never knew like you with the boys and those pregnancies were fine.

Yep, to all that. They put it in too much stuff, for sure, and I agree I know of several people who had perfectly normal pregnancies taking folic acid and eating it in everything. It's something that we are only just beginning to learn about - it very well may be something that takes a kid or two to start causing issues.

To exercise or not to exercise? That is the question.
