Mind you, both moves pale into insignificance when I heard what you're about to do Emily!! You're one brave lady moving countries like that especially when pg. Does Dh's work help you with the move?

Yes. His company are brilliant and help a lot and pay for everything. I am a bit concerned about giving birth over there as I don't know what facilities there are there yet and I had a crappy birth in Africa with DS1.

You are brave too - i think it must be more stressful when it is your house. we just rent everywhere we go. Good luck with your offer tomorrow.

Dreamofpink, I think we will have another scan next time we are going just to confirm the pregnancy again and then I think we will wait until 12 weeks as I think the nub can be seen best at 12 weeks. Is that right?

So are you Scottish, Dreamofpink? My husband is Scottish.

I am also a bit unsure about giving birth here, obviously on a completely different scale to you, Emily, but unsure nonetheless. I went through labour with our son on G&A only and I don't think G&A is very commonly used in Germany any more, which makes me a bit nervous.

Nope I'm English & dh is N. Irish. We moved to Scotland for work after we left uni. Glad you're getting a 12 week scan too. The anxiety has been eating me up & getting too much at times. The next 2 weeks before I have my scan feels like the longest ever. I just wish I had a doppler so I could at least hear the heartbeat!

Gas and air isn't very popular outside of the UK as far as I can work out. I have only heard of it being used in one private clinic in the whole of Spain. I am an epidural fan though so it didn't bother me too much. I am such a wimp

Not a wimp at all, Emily. I wanted an epidural too, but had to be transferred to a hospital for it. By the time I got there it was too late as I was fully dilated.

With DS3 I begged for an epi but they kept saying no no, I was too far into it. After he was born my placenta didn't come away in tact so they had to give me a spinal block to get it out!! I wasn't impressed I suffered three days of labour being able to feel everything and then straight after they stopped the feeling to my legs! Typical

3 boys and GeCon ow!!! Perhaps we should start a horrendous birth stories thread!!!!

I was traumatised after DS1 was born and had horror movie style flashbacks for weeks. At one point I had 5 people including the paediatrician doing cardiac style compressions on my uterus. My ribs were so bruised I couldn't wear a maternity bra for three weeks afterwards. DS1 had ripped neck muscles from the botched and over zealous ventouse and needed a cranial helmet to correct the resulting skull deformation. Thought I would bring a bit of joy to our thread!!!

In Spain they are amazing as long as you want to go the hospital route. I still got my epidural even though I was over 8cm at the time - their logic was that it might take effect in time and if not at least it would help with the after pains. Love them!!

Wow, Emily. What a truly terrifying experience for you all. I am not surprised you had flashbacks the weeks following the birth.

Amazingly, even without the epidural I wanted, I had quite a lovely birth. Of course painful, in fact painful enough to make me brick it again just thinking about it, but as nice a labour as I could have wished for. My waters broke at 8.45am and our little sunshine was born at 5.45pm.

Here's hoping that we all get straight-forward and as little painful births as possible.

3boys, I am not surprised you were not impressed. But as you said it is just typical to happen that way.

Dreamofpink, have you looked into hiring a doppler? You can hire them on a weekly basis.

Hello ladies, I haven't posted in this thread for ages!

GeCon thanks for updating it. I have just read through the last part of the thread, lovely to see so many familiar names posting in the same place! Was getting confusing chasing people around different threads! You were right my EDD is 15th Jan 2014

I read someone mention that you can bookmark a thread, how do you do that? Takes me ages to find threads every time I log on, complete idiot!

I am desperate for my 12 week scan, we only get the 12 and 20 week 2D scans With DS1&2 we had a private 3/4D scan at 30 weeks. I will do the same this time but am also contemplating a gender scan at 16 weeks, don't think I will be able to wait the additional four weeks to find out!

I had an epidural with DS1, was great! Delivery ended as an emergency csection tho boooooo! DS2 was a successful VBAC and I miraculously survived on just gas and air, was pretty impressed by it, couldn't pry it from my fingers!
