Shutterbug - a girl from my due date group was told 100% boy at 14 weeks and she went in for a scan today at about 18 weeks and its very clearly a girl, so don't loose hope completely.
Congrats Gurly and irregardless, she is NOT allowed to withold information - I seriously doubt you ONLY wanted to know the gender, but ofc you'd like to know and she should've given you EVERYTHING the test showed without making such a fuss!

gurly, I would just like to point out that in their defense, they have no way to know why you wanted the information. There are people (and not a few) who want to know gender in order to have an abortion of the "wrong" gender baby and I think most people in the medical field assume that people are aborting girls and in favor of boys. I agree totally that it's your medical info and you have a right to it but please don't judge them too harshly, it may be that they were trying to protect your daughter by postponing you finding out till it was too late to schedule pregnancy termination.
Congrats on your girl.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

I want to add that I had the cvs done last pregnancy and had no issues getting the (full) results. I'm sure gender termination is an issue but it can't be common enough that they would consider withholding information from patients. They had no idea I wanted a girl, only DH and strangers online know that lol

Shutterbug - I am pretty sure I am having a boy as well and I was hoping to hear pink too. The technician would not confirm until the next appointment but told us what to look for when she showed us the "nub shot"...both my husband and I said "so, boy!!" and she just started laughing. She didn't know I was really hoping it was a girl, but she totally gave it away. I posted my 13 week scan (link below) and pretty much only got boy guesses.
So you are not alone here and you have every right to feel disappointed.
My mom just walked a 500 mile pilgrimage through spain and each day she would post a quote of the day along with a picture from her journey. I thought I would share today's quote because it spoke to me and changed my perspective.
"The pessimist complains about the wind;
The optimist expects it to change;
The realist adjusts the sails."
It made me realize it was time to stop complaining about not getting the girl I wanted or hoping that the penis will magically disappear by the 20 week scan and to just accept my reality and adjust my sails.I think I and everyone around me will be a lot happier for it.

It's a HUGE issue around the globe right now. They may not have been aware of it the first time through. So much so that several hospitals in Canada will no longer give out baby's gender info until 20 weeks. Google it.
You are completely missing my point, they don't HAVE to know what you want. They DO know that there are literally millions of missing girls worldwide and so when someone shows up for an early gender test, who doesn't want any other testing done, I think it is completely understandable that they might balk at revealing that information until said person is out of the range of when a pregnancy could be terminated. The vast majority of the time it is people terminating girl pregnancies and so I do not think it was unreasonable for them to assume that.
If the biggest problem you have is that someone didn't give you your test results for your desired gender fast enough, you are very very lucky and you should count your blessings because there are people on this site and in this group who have gone thru some real heartbreak lately.!!! Gurly- I am so sorry you had to go through all of that. That is just horrible. I am glad to here though that so far your test results have all come back good and congratulations on having a girl!
Atomic- Please do not take my response to your post the wrong way. I and I am sure everyone else on this website appreciates all the hard work you do here. You truly are amazing when it comes to that. However, I am actually offended by your response to Gurly and the response was not even directed toward me. First, I do not know if you read Gurly's story on page 37?, I think, but she has had a problem with the geneticist and the geneticist's office being completely rude and unprofessional to her since her appointment. Second, whether or not the geneticist felt that Gurly's request for the information was important or not does not give her the right withhold any test result. As someone who has worked in the medical field, it is illegal according to HIPAA laws for any Dr. to withhold any result from a test whether that result is insignificant or not. The geneticist fully admitted on the phone in front of the insurance company that she was avoiding Gurly and that is just the same thing a purposely withholding the results. So even if the Dr. thought that the reason Gurly wanted the results for the gender part of the test was to abort her unborn child because it was the wrong sex (which I don't believe Gurly is a person to do that) she still could not legally withhold the result because it is an actual test result. The fact that some hospitals and Dr's won't tell you the gender of your child during an ultrasound till at least 20 weeks is completely different. The result of finding out gender during an ultrasound is not a test result, it is an added bonus to find out from the procedure. So legally, no Dr. has to tell you gender during an ultrasound, however, like I stated, the result of finding out gender from a specific test result is a completely different story. And last, I feel that your last comment towards Gurly was extremely inappropriate as it sounded like you were judging her for the way she was feeling and trying to make her feel guilty for the way she was feeling. Since I have joined this website I was shown that everyone has different feelings regarding every situation and we are all here to support each other, not judge. Your comment telling her that she should be counting her blessings and to feel very lucky because other people have gone through serious heartbreak this year sounds like you're saying that she should be ashamed of her feelings because other people have had it worse. I do not think it is right in any way to be telling her that and find it quite rude. Gurly has nothing to be ashamed for the way she is feeling or wanting to know the information so badly. I also don't think you should be comparing her situation to anyone else's in any way.
Also, I don't know if Gurly did or not, but unless Gurly signed a specific form stating that she could it is also against HIPAA laws for Dr's to leave test results over an answering machine, whether they are good or bad, which is what the geneticist initially did.Last edited by tmbabcock; October 9th, 2013 at 08:42 PM.
