Sooo... it's my husband's birthday on Sunday. His mom is taking us out to lunch. Oy! I'm currently on my period, but I don't know what to do.

It's the cafe in our town... so I know my choices. So... out of these choices, on this diet, what would you choose? :/

Obviously it's a big deal that I behave this month as it's TTC month, so I'm looking for feedback.

(I'm not even going to list sandwiches! There may be a soup of the day, too, so that's another option, though soup can be filled with cream and/or salt, so...)

    "Big Salads"

Mozzarella, fresh basil, and tomato salad
    Brie, apple, and grape salad
Goats cheese, caramelized onions, and rocket
Fried halloumi (mmm......), piquant peppers, and basil

And then I believe there is a falafel salad and a greek feta salad.

And they might have jacket potatoes. But the topping choices might be beans, etcetera.

I had a jacket potato last weekend when she took us out to lunch (Seriously, WHY is she doing this to me?) so it might raise eyebrows. I would have never ordered a jacket potato normally, and she looked at me like, "Are you sure?" and I said, "... I... I don't know! I'm just totally into baked potatoes right now!"

    Haha...

"Brie, apple, and grape salad" <- that's probably the most girl-friendly one of the lot!

All the salads seem to highlight cheese...they sound yummy, but not great for the diet. I'd go with rainbow's suggestion. Either that or a jacket potato, but it might be tricky to keep the toppings within the guidelines.

The mozzarella, tomato and basil salad might be ok since they probably use fresh mozzarella (I make a salad like this at home on occasion - but while on the diet, I'd keep myself to one slice of mozzarella), which has almost 0 sodium...but it would also involve larger amounts of cheese, so protein would become an issue.

I'm SCREEEWWWWEDDD! Hahaha. It is fresh mozzarella, but they use like the whole ball of it in slices (probably about 8 slices of round mozzarella.)

The last time I went there, they were "out of jacket potatoes", so I'm not sure how that will end up.

On the off chance, what could I have on a baked potato that would be all right?

God, my mother in law, if I get that, is going to really raise her eyebrow, and she's kind of frustrating enough as it is.

Ohhhh! Just remembered. They also do "platters" where you can choose three things. I'm going off an oldish menu, though, so roughly it's like this:

Like a salad, but more flexibility (doh! forgot about them!)

"Platters served with salad, tortilla chips, and warm pita with 3 items:

    Hummus
    Lemon & Lime Mayo
    Brie
    Cream Cheese
    Mixed Olives
    Stuffed vine leaves
    Artichoke hearts
    Tabbouleh
    Tzatziki
    Mozzarella
    Feta
Port Salut (a type of cheese... Port-Salut (cheese) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
    Piquant peppers
    Sundried tomatoes"

The platter sounds like a great idea!

The hummus would probably be fine, and maybe the tabbouleh (though it has garlic in it, no?). You could also get the brie and just make sure not to eat too much of it. Watch those tortilla chips, though - they're probably salted. If you have a low sodium/protein supper it should all balance out.

TBH Suregena it sounds like whatever you choose will "break the rules" for the day in one meal - just order what you like and enjoy it as a cheat day! one cheat day won't ruin your sway
