So just to clarify. We are doing FR, but we can only DTD once in the cycle at +Ov ? Not even early in cycle when not in fertile window?
Sorry if I sound really stupid but we have been DTD at least once early in cycle then DH has done fr until we do a attempt just before Ov. is this wrong? if so glad I am yet to get bfp as would feel awful if I have been doing it all wrong.

It is fine to BD before your fertile window opens. What you have done is fine.

You can DTD with a condom and some might even want to use a spermicide condom in case the residue might sway pink.

Just curious, here...what would you consider to be your fertile window? We actually DTD 5 days before O (not an attempt, in my mind), but I had started to get some EWCM already. At our ages (36 & 38), what is the likelihood that we got pg from that? I automatically assumed our 1 attempt at pos OPK 4 days later was what had to have done the trick. Thoughts?

Odds of conception from that first attempt are slim to none.
Fertile window as defined by science - O-5-O day

Fertile window for practical purposes - O-3 thru O+1

Fertile microwindow - O-2 thru O day (vast majority of conceptions come from BD on one of those three days)

It's possible to get pg from earlier attempts but really not likely at all. It is possible but not probable. there is a rule called "the two day algorithm" that says that if you had fertile mucus the day before you DTD and the day that you DTD, you are way more likely to get pg. That is WAY WAY WAY more likely to happen at pos OPK then 5 days before.

Both of my boys were conceived with just one attempt - one at O day and one with a 4-5 day cut-off (that's all I, so naively, thought at the time would get a girl!). So I had assumed we should dtd a lot this time, to be opposite from the one shot boys....but your research and data has convinced me to do the one attempt at +opk. I don't think (even from my own experience) that timing matters, so I will affect the environment through my other sway elements and use the one attempt at +opk to give conception the best chance within that (hopefully) girl-favorable environment. Makes total sense to me now -- thank you, Atomic!!!

Does 1 attempt mean no dtd at all that cycle until ovulation ? Is that abstaining ? Or is it better to dtd with a condom (or him on his own) then just one attempt at ovulation ? Sorry just a bit confused about if it's better to not do anything at all until attempt

No, it just means one unprotected attempt in the fertile window.
