Okay, so these hormones are really getting to me! We had to take our cat to the vet yesterday because he was just not himself. Turns out he's diabetic. The vet prescribed us insulin injections and sent us on our way, saying he would be back to his normal self asap. Then he didn't move from one spot, eat, or drink, all day and night. So we took him back in today. They have him there for observation, but his body temp is really low and he's still not wanting to eat or drink. The vet hasn't said anything yet, but I'm worried this may be the end for him :-(
He's always been a pain in the butt cat, but he's my baby, and I love him. Now I can't seem to stop crying. I know he's just a cat, but I'm still not ready for him to be gone. And the worst part is that we're leaving for Disney on Friday, so if he does make it till then, I'm going to have to board him, and that's not cheap. We've already spent over $800 trying to treat him and nothing seems to be working. Plus, I'd hate for him to pass while we're gone, but I also can't think about making a decision before then about the end. Ugh. Hoping the vet has some good news when he calls back this afternoon, but it's not sounding very likely.
Oh, and I guess I should start figuring out how we want to introduce death to our 3 year old, since it seems inevitable. She absolutely adores this cat too!
Hope everyone is having a better week than us!!

Awwee crazy cat.. I can relate. We lost our cat in july after 13 years. He was my furry baby. I am still devistated. It was the hardest thing ive ever had to do (putting him down). Also his sickness came outta nowhere which made it extremely difficult to explain to the kids etc.
We took him into the vet that night for a check up bc he wasn't eating. I honestly thougt he was just getting older. Then admitted him and said he needed fluids etc. That was supposed to be for 24 hrs and was set to cost 1000. We left and one hr later the vet called saying he almost died on the xray table from not breathing and that his red blood cell count was so low. (Supposed to be 30+ he was at 5!). She said he wouldn't even make it through the night and we should come back to put to sleep.
At this point the kids were just tucked into bed. I litterly had to wake them balling ti tell them the cat has to go live with god now in heaven. They started to freak out. They cried "why cant we just keep him forever. "
They didn't get it. It was very sad. In fact it broke my heart.
Since that night things have gotten a bit better. My older sin draws pictures of our cat in heaven and knows hes happy up there. We actually just got another kitten. I didnt think i was ready but turned out to be exactly what i needed.
Bought him thinking he was a boy.. found out the kitten is actually a girl. Shes so beautiful and snuggly. The kids just adore her.
Its deff not easy to go through a pet being sick or dying. My thoughts are with you and your family. Just try and enjoy your vacay. Praying kitty will be ok.

Pets dying has to be awful- we have two dogs and Diella will definitely be old enough to understand what's happening when they go and I am sooo dreading it.

Crazy cat I don't think it's just hormones, it's such a sad story that I'm not surprised ur so upset. Pets are part of families so their illnesses and passing wld be devastating. I'm sorry that you are going through that, hopefully u will here good news.
Robin, ur cat story is so sad too 😔 it's just awful when it hurts little ones. Ellie is so adorable though! I'm glad she makes things easier
We don't have pets at the moment as we live in an apartment so it's too hard, but I remember 3yrs ago when my pet goldfish died after having him for 4 yrs and I was inconsolable for two days. It's weird how they impact ur lives so much xDD 2011

Thanks ladies. Robin, I'm sorry about your kitty :-( You're new little lady is adorable though!
We ended up having to put him down yesterday afternoon. The doctor called and said his body was shutting down and he likely wouldn't make it through the night :-( It was pretty awful, but I know it was the right things to do. We took Lyra and let her snuggle him one last time and say goodbye. We tried to explain it to her, but I don't think she really got it. She asked about taking him to the vet again today and we had to explain that we wasn't with us anymore, etc. It's sad because she's always loved him so much, but being 3 1/2 I don't think she'll even remember him. And for me it sucked because he was my first pet that was truly mine. I got him and his sister and brother the same month I bought my first house and was truly on my own. He's been with me longer than Lyra and even longer than Brett. I'm going to miss him terribly.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat, Crazycat! I have three right now, and we all love them like crazy! We also have a chocolate lab who is 12 and she is really starting to show her age! I know that we will be facing that day with her soon and the thought drives me crazy. I cannot imagine our lives without her.

Thanks ladies :-) I really love this forum and feel like we have a great support system here, which is awesome! It's funny because when I first went on InGender, we didn't have any kids except the cats, so that's where my screen name came from. Later, when I signed up for this site, I figured I might as well use the same screen name. People always thought I was crazy because I had 3 cats, but then I met a man with 2! How often do you find a man with 2 cats? So strange, lol. So we had the Brady bunch of cats - 5 of them, and hence became the crazy cat couple. Now we are down to 4, but they are all special and dear to us. I think we'll appreciate them even more now that we've lost one.
Anyhoo, onto more happy news... we're heading to Disney on Friday and I'm super excited. It's also our 5 year anniversary. On our 2nd anniversary, we were in Maryland for a friend's wedding. We went to this really fancy restaurant, as it was our first time without Lyra and we are both foodies. We ended up falling in love with a wine and bought a bottle from their store that was connected. I picked up the trick long ago to label nice bottles of wine for a specific special occasion immediately, otherwise no occasion will seem special enough and they'll never get drunk, lol. So, we labelled this particular bottle for our 5 year anniversary. Needless to say, our 5 year anniversary is here and I'm pregnant. I'm planning on taking the bottle with us to Disney have having a small glass or two while we're there. I feel slightly guilty about it, but at the same time, I know a small glass will be fine. My doctor even said I could have a glass a day! And I'm secretly super excited just to taste it...I remember loving it, and I so miss my wine!

Crazycatcouple- don't feel guilty. I had a glass of wine on our anniversary though I have to tell you- I don't enjoy it as much pregnant and I am looking forward to REALLY enjoying my red wine again.
