Thanks for the article Gafan. I guess 39 is the magic number. Doctor wants to book for thursday and she turns 39 weeks on sunday, that's 3 days too early, it doesn't sound like much but it does worry me, I guess I will ask if we can leave it for the following week.

Sorry to butt in but saw this thread on TapaTalk :-) Anytime after 37 weeks is considered full term and so I wouldn't worry at all especially if it's your doctor recommending it. My DS2 was born at 36 weeks and no difference in health than with his 2 brothers (42 weeks and 40 weeks). Just enjoy the last few days of pregnancy :-)

37 weeks is now considered late pre-term, not full term & are known to have more issues.
I have no idea why you need a cesarean, aidansmum, or why the dr is worried about the effect of labour on your body, but In making your decision you should know that going into labour, even if you're having a cesarean, it's far better for the baby. It makes it far less likely your baby will be early & will have some of the benefits of labour hormones, decreasing risks of breathing issues.
Most drs are still not following the March of Dimes' recommendation, unfortunately.2001

Good luck AM! Your getting close now. I know ACOG in the states recently changed the guidelines as the poster above stated. They won't do csections or induce until full term now, 40 weeks here. Unless there is a medical reason too. I'm sure your dr. Knows what's he is doing, but I can understand your worry too. I was surprised because of the new guidelines if I didn't go before my due date they wouldn't induce me until 4 days post due date! Thank goodness I went.

You ladies are so close!! Can't wait to hear of your new arrivals.
AM - I think you are safe either way. Thousands of babies are delivered before that date. My first son came at 36 weeks and was healthy as could be (I knew my dates). I know with some C-sections, the doctor doesn't want them going into labor at all and that depends on why they are having the C-section. I have a friend that her doc didn't want her to at all because last delivery the baby was stressed and the way her body was...but there are varying reasons. It just depends on why you have the feeling you want to wait....typical mommy worries or intuition?? Hope you guys can agree on something!
Hope everyone else is well! Love hearing updatesDS12009

Aidansmum, follow your instinct. Here in the netherlands they don't do cs very often, although it has raised recently to 12%. Induction is almost never done before 41 weeks. Maybe that's the result of the system, with primary care midwifes who aren't allowed to induce and thus will wait longer.
I would always opt for a natural birth if, big if, it's possible.
Don't know your medical history, so that why i say if :-)Mother of'08 and

Bigwish, you're not enormous at all! Such a cute bump! But I know what you mean, I was told last week my bump looks small for gestation and I was shocked because I feel massive!
As for the C-section, it was decided because of nasty complications with my last labor, it was traumatic and it scarred me and I don't want to go through that again, even if there is a slight chance of it happening again, it would make me anxious and stress me out, so the Doctor offered a C-section and by reading a lot and talking to mums who had a CS I opted for a CS. My Doctor said that waiting for labor to start to then have a CS can bring more complications than starting one a bit earlier, and for what I've read I think he's right, I don't want to go into labor but would like to wait until week 39 because of evidence of babies breathing better from 39 weeks. It is not intuition, it's just me being overcautious but I make no apologies for worrying about it, who wouldn't? If he can push it just a few days later, say 4 or 5, I'll be happy.Mum to Lucas13/12/1989

And please note, the CS would be performed at 38 1/2 weeks as per his suggestion, not 37! I believe no elective CS should happen before 38 weeks!

Aidansmum, sounds like a very well informed decision.
I'm sorry your last delivery was so traumatic, you wouldn't expect that with a third child, would you?Mother of'08 and
