as my ds1 has heart disease i can definitely relate to this feeling.. we were in limbo for over a year before we got the news that nature is healing itself and ds1 wont need surgery to close up his hole in the heart.. i cant begin to explain how frightened i was for my son that first year of his life and the things i've seen when we've been on our many trips to the Freeman hospital in Newcastle. Last time we were there a couple walked past us with their son who couldnt have been more than 2 and he was in a hospital gown on his way to the theatre for heart surgery. now that broke my heart! imagine how scared his parents must have been
unfortunately i will never forget the day after ds1 was born and the baby doctor came to do the baby checks and he spent a good 10 minutes listening to ds1's chest with a very pussled look on his face and then asked me and dh to 'take a seat'.. and not to mention the next 3 days that followed.. ultrasounds, ecg's, x-rays, specialists.. at least this experience helped me push most of my gd away after ds2 was born because i was simply so over the moon to be like all the other mummies in the postnatal ward who got to enjoy their babies fully without having a doctor ask them to sit down while he delivers the news that there's something wrong with their babies heart.
wow..this turned into a novel! my apologies, but sometimes it's nice to vent
this is my very brave boy during one of his routine appointments

Oh bless him sunset! Brave little thing. Lucky for us ds1 hole closed up in the end too. The murmur sounded worse than it actually was because he was tiny at birth and the blood flow through his heart was restricted. We waited an age for the scan on his valves but I guess in reality it was only a few months - felt like a lifetime. Glad yours is doing well now. So sad, you never think it could happen to you. That's the problem withhaving no scan after 20 weeks. As the hole closes up so late so it's a real shock.

Oh hun you must feel awful and annoyed !! I have 3 out of four with asthma although techniquely dd has not yet been diagnosed as she is too young but has had oral steroids twice, been admitted once and frequently has to use a blue inhaler, I find it very frustrating as people assume I smoke around them and its my fault, i have never smoked
DH is much better now but he was unwell for 5 weeks and I begged him to go back to the doctors, glad he listened and went back !!

are you getting induced on sunday??
ds1's heart disease was never picked up on during the 20 week scan simply because the only thing they check for is that 4 valves are present and that the hearts structure looks normal, but they never actually look at the heart in detail which is why i always have to have a specialist fetal heart scan when i'm pregnant. heart defects are actually the most common kind of birth defects with an occurrence of about 1:100 and unfortunately only about 50% of all heart defects are picked up on during routine u/s making it one of the defects most likely to go unnoticedscary stuff!
it's strange that you had to wait several months for a heart scan. my ds was first scanned at 2 days old and then went on to have monthly heart scans for the first year of his life.. now at 3,5 years old he only needs a routine check up (scan, ecg) every 3 years.
