How often do you get to see him? It must be hard having him in the hospital.

TBH, my dad and I have never been very close. I don't like to see him suffering, but s lot of his health problems are self-induced because he had a very unhealthy lifestyle: a smoker for over 50 years and a closet alcoholic. I worry more about my Mom who is older than him but has taken care of herself. Now she lives her life at his bedside instead of being out enjoying her retirement years as she should. That's why I'm glad we talked her into this trip to Spain with a friend - she really needed to get away! I just wish I could help her out more but I live 4 hours away.

That's too bad about your mom and dad. It is good that she got away for a vacation!

Mocha, that does not sound good. Make sure if anyone needs to visit him they do it soon, so they don't have any regrets.

Auroara, that is a really tricky situation. Definitely a good idea to show him the stats. Might make it sink in and he might realise it is hopefully a short term option and you aren't wanting him to do it forever. My DH used to do night fill at the local supermarket when he was at university as it paid ok and the hours suited.

One of my brothers is there for the weekend and my Mom comes back from Spain on Monday, so we're covered. The doctors have assured us that although he's very poorly, he's not yet at death's door - otherwise my Mom would have cancelled her ticket and come back early and all of us kids would be there with him. We will be planning a visit soon, though.

I am so tired today! I worked last night and then ended up staying up SO late! I have to work tonight too, but hopefully I can get off at a decent hour and get to bed on time tonight!

Any exciting plans for the weekend, everybody?

We are going to do some planting in the garden, and the older kids have a baseball awards ceremony for the end of the T-ball/baseball season.

We have no real plans today but I might try and finish the painting in the playroom (just need to finish the big closet which is turquoise!). I also have a family photo session tonight...and it's been a while since I had one of those and not just a toddler or something!

DH let me sleep in (it is now almost 10:30am) and I feel sooooo sore. Maybe I'll try and get some knitting done today, too, since I'm trying to finish up a few different projects.

Not much planned today here either. It's pouring rain outside, so we're all stuck inside. We were supposed to go to a big BBQ at ds3's preschool, but I don't really fancy hanging around outside in the rain.

Tonight I'm going out with the girls. One of my friends is recently separated and just recently got a new boyfriend so I imagine I'll be spending my night listening her talk ad nauseum about him. It's funny - when I was in my 20s I was used to having to listen to friends in the first flush of a relationship yammer on and on about it, but my friend's almost 42 and a mom, so it seems weird somehow! Maybe I'm just bitter because she and I used to go out to movies together every week (which was my ONLY night away from the kids and something I really looked forward to), but now she keeps ditching me and only wants to get together on nights her man isn't available so she can dish about her most recent date. I really do wish her happiness - I don't mean to sound like a b****. Ok, rant over...
