    Sad Face Metformin and nausea....

So I am a type II diabetic. This time around I wanted to get a better handle before TTC. My levels were very high in the 200 and 300. I am checking twice a day and taking 500mg of Metformin. Once with breakfast and again with dinner. The pills seem to be working. My levels are now within normal range... but I'm sick to my stomach. I feel like I'm in my first trimester. Any advice?

That is not unusual and you may find it improves over time. It's that same sort of feeling you get if you haven't eaten and you get queasy from lower blood sugar. If it gets really severe you need to talk to your doctor about it because that may indicate it's causing side effects that could be harmful.

Update: I spoke to my doctor she switched me to Metformin ER (extended release) all of the symptoms I had with the other form of Metformin have gone completely.

It took me 3 weeks to wean onto my dose of 1500mg (one 500mg tablet per meal). I started on one tablet then added one more tablet per week.

I was dyyyyyyying of nausea and cramps the first two weeks, but the third increase was ok. And after that I was fine. So it just takes time to adjust and it's especially harder on the gut on the regular Met. I'm not on XR but I know the XR is an easier adjustment.

Now I sometimes get different versions of generics depending which pharmacy I use to fill my Rx, and I can have a day or two of very light nausea, but it doesn't last.

The nausea while on Metformin is horrible. I'm so at peace with the ER version. Now all I have to do is manage my levels. My levels are super high I'm thinking about using protein as a meal supplement and having just a small meal for dinner.

Atomic what do you think of this protein blend I ordered sample packs last night. My husband has put a stop on ttc for now
