It's not red meat, it's processed meats.

Meat itself isn't unfriendly to the liver, however once it undergoes the "preservation" process and certain chemicals are added to prevent spoiling, it can be potentially harmful and may cause serious liver damage over time. The culprit is sodium nitrate, the most commonly used meat preservative. Sodium nitrate is used to prevent the packaged meat from going bad, and helps keep the flavor and color of the meat sealed in. While this may not sound like a bad process, it's certainly not the healthiest choice.

Though, if you find yourself splurging a bit too often, you may wish to consider supplementing your diet with a little extra vitamin C in an attempt to prevent the negative affects of sodium nitrate causing further liver damage. As well, choosing to take UltraThistle, the most absorbable and effective liver antioxidant available, can help ensure your liver is protected from sodium nitrite and other potential toxins. It's a good idea to discuss any new health care regimen, including a change in diet, with your physician. A healthier alternative, although not always possible, would be to steer clear of these processed foods and stick with fresh meats instead.

Obviously, if liver disease runs in your family, this is not something you should be doing at all.

The difficult thing is their are nitrites in EVERYTHING! I have started reading labels a lot since TTC and I am shocked how their isn't much, with except fresh meat, that doesn't have nitrites. I was looking at hams for Christmas, etc and they are all chocked full of them! So frustrating!!

No, red meat can do it too if you eat too much of it. And it doesn't run in my family.

Thanks ladies for this great info, would certainly watch my red meat now. I guess its best to get more protein from nuts/fruits rather than from animal alone.

If you are sticking to the overall limits of the diet, red meat every day is fine.

As always, I urge blue swayers to drop things that don't sway in order to get pregnant quickly...I believe the HE Diet is perfectly safe and it's the way that most of us boy moms eat all the time.
