    Is FOLATE the same as FOLIC ACID?!? Help for new Boy Sway!

    Is Folate the same as Folic Acid? Ive been taking folate 2x a day assuming it was the same as folic acid. We are about to ttc a boy in a few weeks! Help! I hope I didnt mess up my sway because I was taking the wrong supp.

    Folate is just the bioavailable form of folic acid. The reason folate is often recommended over folic is because some people have the MTHFR gene mutation that basically causes a buildup of folic in the body because the body can't break it down. Folate is already broken down so those with the gene mutation can take it. Don't worry about messing up your sway. It's fine to take folic as long as you don't have the aforementioned mutation.

    Since you're already on folate I'd just continue with folate though. It's considered better than folic acid if you can afford to use it (it's traditionally been more expensive, altho lately the price has come down)

    Great! Thank you for the reassurance atomic sagebrush! I got a big bottle so I think it should last me- hopefully I can get pregs quickly!
