Yeah, they should not have told you that. They can't tell on an ultrasound if your egg is ok. They have no idea if that is the case and you should have just gone for it.
But you're still in with a good chance of conception, though the egg was quite large and they really should have given you a trigger shot when it became apparent you were not ovulating in a timely fashion.
You can't tell when you ovulate on O Pain. I understand it's weird when you've felt a stabbing pain but I've heard from hundreds of people who feel those feelings and then don't ovulate or did some time in the past long before they felt that.
