    Diet side effects?

Hi, I've been following the LE diet for around 12 weeks and for around a week now I have been feeling light headed and been having heart palpitations. Could these be side effects from the diet? Thanks x

Could be or maybe Thyroid. I had heart palpitations and felt foggy in the head, was diagnosed with an over active thyroid. Maybe Atomic will offer more advice.

Definitely get Atomic's advice on this. Personally, I was on the LE diet for almost a year and after several months I did notice I was a lot more tired and dizzy with occasional heart palpitations. I took iron a few times a week for awhile which seemed to solve the problem. That could also be the case for you too but like I said, Atomic should be able to help you.

Do you have enough potassium? If there's a chance you don't, go eat a banana right now!

When I a was on the diet when we were ttc ds3 I got them and freaked out. I went to the er and they did bloodwork. My postassium levels were really low and they said that could be what was causing them. So try to get some more postassium in you to see if that will help!!

I want you to immediately start eating potassium rich foods (fruit and vegetables, dairy) and relax on diet for a few days (have a pizza or a burger and fries or whatever you're most hungry for)

I also think you probably need some iron so when you're able, go to the drugstore and find an iron supplement 18-30 mg and take it daily for a few days. If you feel immediately, drastically better, then take it every day for the next 6 weeks then reduce to 3x a week. If you don't feel immediately, drastically better, then take it 3x a week anyway and continue doing the extra potassium foods.

Can you please tell me what you're eating every day?

Some of us have a harder time getting potassium from foods (I do too and often have low potassium when I'm not even on a diet or anything!!) If you feel like you are eating enough potassium but still have some side effects, they do sell potassium supplements, and while I do not generally recommend this since I want you guys to make the effort to get potassium from foods, it may be a good idea given this history to have them on hand (they're cheap) and at any time you feel off, take ONE of the pills. Don't take more than one a day, but you will have them if you need them.

Thanks everyone. I did wonder if it could be low potassium, I'm using my fitness pal and I don't seem to get much at all. I'm eating mainly vegetarian with some chicken occasionally. Usually I skip breakfast, have a wrap with soft cheese and salad with a yoghurt for lunch and then dinner is usually rice or pasta, veg, quorn or chicken. I have lost about a stone in weight over 12 weeks but I did have it to lose. I've taken your advice atomic and eaten normally today, had a burger, fries and then carrot cake! I will definitely get some iron supplements and try to get some more potassium in too.

My Fitness Pal is really unreliable for potassium though. Since it doesn't need to be legally listed on the food label, it's often entered into MFP as 0 when in reality there is quite a bit. Most foods have potassium in them so you are probably getting more than you think, but a little more can't hurt anything.
