Sudden weight gain
Hello
Its been a while since I last posted.
I had a surprise pregnancy last year and it turns out I conceived a girl, only to lose her at 12 weeks pg in January. My OB prescribed me pregnitude (myo inositol) and I have been taking it for over a month.
I am very slim, but in the last week/10 days I have put on 13lbs - 6 kgs!!! I havent changed any habits whatsoever. I was going to attempt this month but I am scared this weight gain will ruin everything.
Also, does anyone know if either the MC and D&C could have caused this weight gain?
Pregnitude doesnt make you gain weight does it?
I am so confused as to why this is happening2013

Oh gosh that's heartbreaking, I'm so sorry.
I think you need to head back to the doc about this. Sometimes going through a loss can trigger underlying issues like thyroid stuff that needs to be fully explored.
Pregnitude often helps people lose weight but to be honest, it is a newer supp and I don't feel we truly have a handle on what all it does. I too would be highly suspicious. I would cut back by half the amount you're taking and see what happens. If weight loss slows or stops, you will know to possibly cut it out totally. But I do still urge you to bring this up with the doc and see if there's anything else going on here.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Thank you atomic. It was very sad to be honest. And to finally get my DD to only lose her, it was a bit like a sick joke you know
There is something I didnt mention. I started taking it in feb I think, then I realised I didnt want to attempt in march so I took a break, then started again and thats when I started gaining weight really fast! In fact the last week or so I have gained most of it. I am baffled because I am very slim, I eat what I want and I dont excercise and I never put on weight.
I am going to see my OB next week to see if she can shed some light on it but I am actually worried there could be something wrong with me
I meant to say I didnt wanna quit the pregnitude just yet because I am thinking of attempting next week and it is supposed to improve egg quality but I worry by then I will be a million kgs heavier((((((((((

So then that does seem like the Pregnitude is causing it. The thing with OB's (and sadly all doctors, really) is that they generally have no clue and will not always give you accurate information - so if they haven't heard that Pregnitude could cause this (which honestly I haven't either) they tend to discount your experience firsthand and tell you things are impossible when it's really that they don't know or that no one understands it yet or that there is another, third thing going on that they won't figure out because they're so busy telling you the Pregnitude isn't doing it, that they forget to investigate what IS. So follow your gut.
Egg quality is not an immediate thing the way you're thinking of it. It takes a long time for egg quality to improve and dropping it before ovulation is not going to undo the good that it possibly did (if in fact it did good, which we do not know that to be the case). My concern is, what if whatever the Pregnitude is doing to you, is bad or harmful in some way? So you're trading some ~possible~ slight improvement in egg quality (and with losses at 12 weeks, it does not definitely indicate poor egg quality to me, that's the least likely explanation for a later loss like that) for something that may be actively harming your ability to get and stay pregnant in the here and now. It just doesn't seem like a good trade to me. I think that if your gut is telling you the Pregnitude has caused you to gain a massive amount of weight rapidly (and it sounds to me like that is the case) you need to get off it immediately and see if the weight comes right back off again rather than worrying over some theoretical slight improvement in egg quality.!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I really appreciate it. You dont know how stressed out I am over this, and this is not about looking good or not as I am very slim so its not that I am fat now, but I wanted to stay as slim as possible to conceive as I am TTC pink. Also I realise it is not normal to gain a huge amount of weight so quickly when I havent changed my eating habits or physical activity, so I am worried something could be wrong.
I am seeing an OB tomorrow (my OB is fully booked until may so I am seeing a lady in her team) so I will be sure to update you on her thoughts.
Let me tell you some more things that happen in case this gives you more info. After O in March for a few days I started feeling really tired (I kept falling asleep after lunch which I dont usually do) and I was really hungry too (but I didnt eat more than usual so this is not the reason for weight gain), in fact I even wondered if I was pg even though i was unlikely to be with a 5 day cut off and it was too soon to feel symptoms. I have also been very emotional, and one of my breasts has been feeling rather sore, on and off.
I am no Dr but to me it sounds like all this could be hormonal, and my only possible explanation is either the pregnitude or something to do with the MC.
As for the MC, they tested the baby after the d&c and there were no chromosomal abnormalities, she said it was either her brain or her heart that stoppedShe said this means my eggs are still healthy (I am an older mum, I recently turned 41 so I was worried it was chromosomal due to my age.
I was planning on TTC this month but I am worried this wegiht gain will go against me. I am not swaying per se (when I TTC my dd i wasnt swaying either) but I am trying to do a few basic things like keeping the weight low, cut off etc. Whats your opinion on this, wait and try to lose weight or go ahead?
I stopped the pregnitude 2 days ago, I am too scared of it now
edit - I did wonder why she gave me pregnitude as I dont have PCOS and my mc wasnt due to my eggs by the look of things.Last edited by CattyPad; April 3rd, 2018 at 12:23 PM.

I have been seeing a strong and disturbing trend with docs throwing Pregnitude at people who don't even have PCOS!!! This is what I'm talking about when I say the docs have no clue, they read one little thing and then they're handing it out to everyone without even understanding if it's right for everyone. It's literally only been "a thing" for 2-3 years and we don't really have a feel for how it works and any potential side effects of it. We have had a couple people who experienced really BAD egg quality after taking Pregnitude and additionally some other symptoms as well.
When's the last time you have had a checkup?? Tiredness and rapid weight gain deserve a closer look because aside from hormone stuff, there's thyroid, diabetes, autoimmune disorders to be looked at as well. It could be fluid retention which could be lots of things that may need treatment. We often assume "hormones" when there is actually more going on so I do think it's worthy of investigation.
At 41 time is not our friend here so I would have you try. Don't worry about the weight!
You're not doing a cutoff, are you?!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

I don’t know what all is in Pregnitude, but inositol in general had been recommended by my endo for probably 10 years now because it helps regulate and stabilize blood sugar levels. I was not aware of it being recommended to treat any issues other than blood sugar.

I had a check up with my OB two weeks after my d&c, so mid feb. I also had blood tests right before getting PG and during PG and everything was fine.
What bad side effects did people in here have with pregnitude?
One of the reasons I am not keen to quit it is that I have seen great results when TTC pink in your stats sheets, but if its indeed whats causing all this..
The tiredness and hunger only lasted a few days.
Yes I wanna do cut off because thats how I conceived my DD last time.2013

High blood sugar causes egg quality to tank, so for people with high blood sugar, inositol can cause poor egg quality. Hence for about the last 2-3 years more and more doctors are giving it to everyone and not only to people with blood sugar issues. I know it was invented and used by some previous to that, but that was in people who had some reasons for being on it. When I say "it's a thing" I mean doctors suddenly telling everyone to take it without them seeming to have PCOS or blood sugar issues.

Delaying or stopping ovulation, short LP, inexplicably poor egg quality (and when I say poor egg quality, I mean, the two worst egg qualities I have ever seen!! So bad that docs were telling them they were in menopause and/or needed IVF. and when they went off the inositol, both of them then went on to have in one case 2 and in one case 3 more babies after that.)
What you need to understand about things like inositol is that there is more than one thing that can inhibit fertility. People can have fertility struggles due to PCOS/IR which is kind of a case of "too much" hormones/blood sugar (it's more complicated than that but it's an easy way to explain it). But MANY other people have the opposite problem. They are making too few hormones - age, low weight, too little fat intake, and some medical conditions can cause this. Not to mention that there are even still other things going on fertilitywise that have nothing to do with either end of the spectrum (like blocked tubes, male factor infertility, and autoimmune stuff)
Both of these states of affair (too high and too low hormones) can reduce egg quality and cut odds of conception. The problem is, doctors and naturopaths are taking the remedy for PCOS/IR - prescribing things that are cutting hormone levels and blood sugar - and giving them to EVERYONE. So for people who are struggling to conceive due to low hormones, this is throwing gasoline on a fire. For people who are actually having some OTHER problem (such as blocked tubes or MFI), it can take them from a normal hormone range into a lower hormone range and so then creates a new problem to overcome!
I have had a statistician go over and analyze our stats mathematically and the Pregnitude was not really getting such good success rates, that was a trick of the numbers. I have not had any time to go through and write it all up yet but both Pregnitude and cinnamon were misleading and when calculated mathematically were in line with the rest of the results of the site. They do not actually have those kind of success rates.
I cannot ever recommend anyone at 41 doing a cutoff. If you have to give it a try, it's your call of course, but I beg ya, as someone who has been exactly where you are now, drop it sooner rather than later. I got my daughter very late at night on O-1 (technically was O Day, but I went to sleep and then woke up on O Day, if that makes sense) and if I hadn't been willing to TTC that day, I wouldn't have a daughter today because that was literally the last month I was going to try!!!!!
