    New Article

On a Facebook gender sway page, someone posted this article and I was wondering if anyone had heard about it and if you might know if it’s accurate or not.

Yes, I've heard about it. Intriguing first step, but not much there that really helps for our purposes.

I wasn’t sure if maybe this was saying we had no control over our egg’s preference.

No it's not saying that at all, in fact quite the opposite.

If our egg can choose, then it's choosing for some reason and gender very well may be one of those reasons it chooses one sperm vs. another. Or, (and this is what I personally believe) sperm of the "wrong" gender are weeded out or the less desirable gender sperm remain dormant long before they ever get to the egg and so the egg is choosing between a majority of X or Y sperm - even if it only picks the healthiest, if there are a majority of one gender at the egg, by default it will still be more likely to pick X vs. Y.

Oh ok interesting! I did t think of it from that standpoint, but that makes sense. I have often heard of the idea that the sperm that survive are the healthiest, but how does that work with babies born with Down syndrome or other birth defects or diseases? How did those sperm survive?

Because the human body is not infallible. No mechanism we have in our body works very well, LOL, which is why we get heartburn and yeast infections and autoimmune diseases. It's a system that has worked well enough over time for there to be 8 billion of us, but it isn't flawless and errors do still occur.
