But you got your period that month? If you got your period the odds are all but 100% you ovulated.

You read something wrong. Sugar is fine if you don't have PCOS, insulin resistance, or weight to spare. People who have 30+ weight to lose should not be eating sugar. The rest of us can have it if we don't have PCOS or IR.

Just have the attempt as soon as possible after the positive. If hubby takes a few hours to come home that's ok.

In the vast majority of cases, if you get your period in a relatively normal time frame you ovulated. A period is a good sign you ovulated, even if it's a little earlier or a little later than you expected. Signs and symptoms of ovulation and even OPK are much, much less reliable than your period coming.

When people have breakthrough bleeding (that's bleeding without ovulation happening) most of the time it is not in any sort of regular pattern. It's often much lighter or heavier than a true period (so either just some light spotting that never amounts to anything because only a small amount of lining was shed, or a huge gusher because you'd built up so much lining - the latter usually happens after several months but not always) and it will come after several months of no period, or in a very close time frame (so only like 2 weeks after your last period.)

Bleeding that seems cyclic in nature, is fairly similar your normal menstrual flow, and is 21-35 days after your last period (even if that isn't your "normal" pattern) is ~usually~ a true period. This is true even if you have no O symptoms and never get a positive OPK.
