    Too many ultrasounds?

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for my question, but here it is.

I am 25 weeks pregnant and I swayed for a boy. During by 20 week scan, they found that baby could have club foot so they asked me to come back in two weeks. After two weeks, they it was mild talipes but they couldn't see baby's aortic arch, so I was called back again in two weeks time. In this scan they could see aortic arch, so it was all good.

Meanwhile, I've a fibroid which measures about 15cm, to monitor that I've to have 3 more scans. Since I swayed I wanted to know the gender. The local hospitals do not tell me the gender so I had to have a private scan, they said it's a boy!! I'm happy that sway worked but want to get a 3D one done! But i'm conscious i've already had 5 scans done and 3 to go! I'm wondering if I could do without this one!!

Any thoughts? Also, do you think so many u/s are safe for baby??

With my twins, they were a very high risk and I had to have weekly ultrasounds throughout the whole pregnancy and they're all ok, so I wouldn't worry about the extra couple you've had done. 😊
    And congrats on your boy!!

I had to have a ton of ultrasounds with my 4th boy and he seems ok. (actually my smartest kid)

I honestly don't know if it's safe or not. I worried about it a ton and still do.

I worried about it with my kids too. I'm not really convinced they have hard and fast evidence of the effects (nor any real way to do a blind study of it). BUT, I don't think it's a huge risk to be taking. I think there are benefit and downfalls and it's not necessarily something to just do on a regular basis for the heck of it.

I have three children...my first I had four ultrasounds. He is smart and quite fine. My second I had about 9 (maybe 10). We had discovered a blood clotting issue that requires monitoring in pregnancy. He is also rather smart and fine. My third I had at least 15 (mostly in the last couple weeks, I had an undetected abruption) and she is smart and fine. (AKA: you can't tell which of my kids had more technology in their pregnancies...they aren't geniuses or anything! Lol)

And I had an elective in each of my second two pregnancies. Because I wanted to. I kept them short (15 minutes or less) and I asked that the Doppler color variant not be used unless it had to be (usually only on late-term medical scans anyway, but I hear it's the one that produces the heat that is implicated by "anti" U/S info). So, with that said, I think it's okay to have a 3D if you really wish to. I'd just keep away from the 40 minute ones where they chase the baby around for "great pics." Maybe even see if you can convince the tech at one of the future scans to flip it into 3D for a minute or two instead. I did that with my first
