What is Gender Selection?

by Gender Selection Guru

-Family Balancing

-High Tech Gender Selection

-IVF/PGD

The process has many names but no matter what you call it, it is the only method that offers you a 100% guarantee of gender.  Elective IVF for family balancing purposes is available in the United States and selectively around the world.  It is illegal in Australia, Canada and Europe but people do travel from all over the world to undergo elective IVF so they may choose the gender of their next child and we are happy to guide you through that process.

Elective IVF does guarantee gender and you may also choose to have all chromosomes evaluated to ensure you transfer a healthy embryo.  It does NOT, however, allow one to make a ‘designer baby’ like has been publicized in the media previously.  That is not desired by gender selection patients.  Most just want a healthy baby of their desired gender to balance out their family.

Another misnomer regarding gender selection patients is that everyone wants a boy.  It’s actually, the opposite.  On this site, within our forums, 85-90% of the people in our discussion forums are hoping to balance their family by adding a girl.

At Gender Dreaming, we are here to provide information and allow you, the consumer to decide what is best for your family.  Make no mistake about it, Elective IVF is an expensive and exhausting process and at times the stress is tremendous.  You can have the guarantee of gender but you are not guaranteed to come out of it with a baby.  Most clinics will quote a 60% chance of pregnancy for a healthy, fertile woman who undergoes elective IVF for gender selection purposes.  It is far from a guaranteed baby but when it does work, it is wonderful blessing.

PGD Opposites, they do happen

by Gender Selection Guru
January 8th, 2013

PGD is marketed as the only 100% accurate method of Gender Selection available today.  It should be but from following our members over the last couple of years, PGD is not 100% depending on what type of testing your clinic uses.  There are now multiple cases, although numbers are still low, of gender opposites from Members in our community.  It seems the method of PGD or human error are the culprits but which is it?  The labs claim no wrong and the doctors claim they got the information from the lab.  How do you know whom to trust?

There are different types of PGD on the market today.  Things used to be so simple with FISH.  It was a like a PGD-lite.  Sure, the pregnancy rates stunk but at least we knew if they embryo was a BOY or  GIRL.  It’s pretty basic with FISH, either both chromosomes light up or they don’t.  It requires human error with FISH to have an opposite.  Embryos get mislabeled, data gets incorrectly recorded, protocols fail.

Now we’ve moved into the new era of PGD, PGD-“Full Version” which can test all of the chromosomes in various levels of detail and we’ve seen some failures.  When asked, the RE’s again point to the lab but some blame the test- not enough data and the ‘Y’ chromosome is just too small.  Well, why is this still being recommended by some RE’s?  Why do they continue to allow certain types of PGD to be used for Gender Selection purposes?  Why do we know more than the RE’s?

Understanding the way these tests look at the cells isn’t easy.  It’s difficult as a consumer to understand what is being done on a scientific level and so it falls to your doctor.  This is a rapidly changing field and the doctors need to make sure they are up-to-date on the latest capabilities of the various PGD-“Full-Version” options.  Otherwise, please just use FISH and don’t mislabel anything.

As always, be your own advocate and ask lots of questions.  Don’t assume anything and 100% accuracy can never exist when there are humans involved.

When Gender Selection is Illegal in your Country- Travel Options for Gender Selection

by Gender Selection Guru
January 7th, 2013

Gender Selection is illegal in many parts of the world.  It is not legal to choose the gender of your baby in Canada, the UK, Europe and Australia.  Even if it is not available in your home country, Gender Selection is still available to you with some travel involved.  Many, many families travel to the US from abroad seeking family balancing.  Many clinics have set up programs for those that have or choose to travel for Gender Selection.

The US is not your only option.  Gender Selection is performed in limited locations around the world and sometimes under specific conditions.

Israel has offered Gender Selection since 2005 to parents with 4 or more children of the same gender.  Israeli parents who have at least four children of the same sex and want one of the other sex can apply to a health ministry committee for approval of preimplantation genetic diagnosis at their own expense.

In Europe, families can travel to Cyprus, Prague and Jordan for Gender Selection.  It is openly offered in those locations.  Outside of Europe,  Superior ART in Bangkok and Phuket both offer Gender Selection.  Superior ART is affiliated with Genea (formerly Sydney IVF).

The old adage ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’ sometimes holds true for those willing to go the extra mile, sometimes literally.

Within our Discussion Forums, we have women that have traveled to all of these locations that are willing to help and support others through the process.  We can recommend clinics, doctors and even help with travel accommodations!

So, if you have ever dreamed of having that daughter or son and thought it was only a dream, we can help bring it to life.  Join us today in our forums for all of the specific detail you need to start the process.  We are here to help!
