IVF/PGD Consult Questions

by Gender Selection Guru
June 22nd, 2013

So you finally got up the courage to schedule your family balancing consult and now you need to know what you need to know!  We can help you with your consult questions.  IVF for fertile women is not that different than IVF for infertility patients.  What is different is the PGD testing since the majority of IVF patients do not use PGD yet.  You need to be informed about the entire procedure, what kind of testing your doctor or clinic uses and how much biopsy experience your clinic has.  SART.org does show the PGD % but you shouldn’t necessarily rule out a clinic because the don’t do a lot of PGD.  What you should do is ask questions about the embryologists- specifically his or her skill level with day 3 or day 5 biopsies and find out what you can about that individual.

The type of PGD testing is critical.  What day do they biopsy and what kind of PGD- aCGH, Natera, FISH, etc. are they seeing the most success using?  There are no industry standards and it is still NEW to the IVF world, especially 24-chromosome testing.  CCS- Comprehensive Chromosome Testing is the latest buzzword being used right now and refers to testing all 23 pairs of the embryo’s chromosomes and the sex chromosomes are identified too.  That is what we are seeing the most success with on www.GenderDreaming.com and there is a complete shift away from FISH testing.

A list of questions to consider-

– What pretests are necessary for both the egg and sperm supplier
– Success rates depending on your age, medical history, BMI
– How many embryos do they recommend transferring
– What is their typical protocol and how does a cycle go from day one to transfer
– What are your risks(OHSS, No Transfer, etc)
– Extra embryos- what are your options
– Recommended supplements for egg quality and sperm quality
– How to arrange appointments
– Cost
– Medication – approximate cost and where to purchase
– If traveling, is local monitoring possible
– Whom can you contact with additional questions

So, our advice is to register in our forums and start educating yourself on the IVF/PGD process.  Information is power and there are options with IVF.  Know what you are getting when it comes to testing and pay attention to the detail.  www.SART.org is a great place to start when evaluating a clinic’s stats and Dream Members may use our Clinic Location Service to find a clinic near you!

Traveling from Australia for Gender Selection- IVF/PGD Overseas

by Gender Selection Guru
May 5th, 2013

If you are from Australia and are seeking to balance your family with a daughter or son, we have a very large community here at GenderDreaming.com that will guide you through the process.  We can assist with finding local doctors to begin the process as well as helping you select the best clinic outside of Australia for you.

It’s not about “Designer Babies”, it’s not about skewing the gender ratio of our societies, it is about seeking balance within our own lives and our own families and just as choosing to have another child is our rights as individuals, so is choosing to only have that child if it is a particular gender.  Most of us already have 2,3,4 of the same gender and are not open to trying again naturally.  It’s not about choosing to have a son as a first-born.

It is a responsible decision to seek out IVF/PGD before an embryo is implanted rather than go about things the old-fashioned way and then choose to abort because the “baby is the wrong gender”.  Termination due to gender is NOT supported on www.GenderDreaming.com and you will not find any information regarding that topic.  We support the responsible and sensible approach of using modern technology to select the healthiest embryo and the correct gender prior to transfer and implantation.  Often times, extra embryos are donated to other couples that are seeking to have a baby due to infertility reasons.

So, there is support, via the Internet, within our forums.  There are thousands like you if you are looking for where to begin and we are happy to assist.

The IVF/PGD forums are Member-only and thus private from Google searches and anyone casually browsing the site.  You must first register and then become a Dream Member to gain access to all of the information.  But it is here!  We can help you navigate the world of IVF/PGD and help you bring home your dream baby!
