Does anyone know the name of this medicine?

I remember reading somewhere awhile ago that there was this medicine from the 1800's that women would take to regulate their menstrual cycles and it was found that women who took it were more likely to conceive a girl. Does anyone know the name of it and if you've tried it did it work for you?
