Hi! I just realized that we have three separate Clomid/Femara support threads going and rather than merge them into one huge thread, I think we should start a new one for 2018 anyway.
The basic directions for using Clomid and Femara with swaying are found here. http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gender-swaying-general-discussion/7997-swaying-clomid-swaying-under-special-circumstances-part-2-a.html
The more in depth Clomid/Femara directions are going into the Dream Members forum and here on in will be accessible by Dream Members only (you can get a Dream Membership here http://genderdreaming.com/forum/payments.php).
I will of course still answer questions on Clomid/Femara in the free forums but I feel more comfortable about having the main Clomid/Femara essays behind the paywall. A brief note from our sponsors: Dream Memberships are $19 per year and it's a nice way to help out the site. This is how I, atomic, make a living and if you enjoy the site and want to help keep it (and me) going, it's very much appreciated.
Here are the old Clomid support threads

Hi Atomic :) . As I mentioned in my intro post - I have been lurking for several years and your wonderful advice helped me conceive my DD. I am now on Femara and trying for DD #2 - and Joined the site so that I can ask a few specific questions - but cannot find the appropriate thread in the members section ( or perhaps since I JUST joined, I haven't been granted access yet) . My questions are regarding Diet/LastMinute Sways and Femera. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction :)

Hi! I have a five month old baby girl who was conceived on my first month of Clomid 50 mg. I have thin PCOS, so naturally I ovulate maybe 6 times a year, but didn't manage to get pregnant in the 11th months I was trying before my doctor prescribed Clomid.
I want another baby girl very badly and soon for two reasons 1. I heard that if pregnancies are close that sways girl for the second and 2. I think it would be very nice to have siblings close in age.
Two months ago (when I was 3 months postpartum) I still hadn't ovulated or had a period yet, so I picked a random day and took Clomid 50 mg for 5 days. It definitely made me ovulate, and I am pretty sure I conceived, but it made my luteal phase only 8 days long so I got my period. I researched on the internet and read that it is very common for the luteal phase to be super short in the first few periods after having a baby. After that I decided not to take Clomid for a while because why waste Clomid if I might have a luteal phase that is so short I wouldn't stay pregnant. I hoped that I would ovulate on my own (I've read that Clomid stays in the body for a while, so for a lot of PCOS women if Clomid makes them ovulate one month, they will ovulate without it the next month).
It was around CD 27 that I started getting ewcm and DH and I made 1 attempt then. I checked my temps the next two mornings and they hadn't risen, so I'm about 80% sure I didn't ovulate and it was just a "fake out". If I did ovulate, today would be O+7.
So I'm left trying to decide when to use Clomid next. I have 20 pills left of 50mg each, so that's 4 more attempts, though I would consider cutting pills in half to do 25 mg. This is from the same prescription that got me pregnant with my daughter, and they don't expire until 2019. I've never had any side effects from Clomid.
I'm thinking if I did ovulate and I have a luteal phase of at least 10 days, then I'll take Clomid CD 1-5 (that's what got me pregnant with my daughter)
And if I didn't ovulate, then I'll wait until March to try the Clomid again.
I've tried to research on the internet about women using Clomid postpartum to make a small gap between kids, but I couldn't find anything!

Hi! Sorry if I'm posting too much for a newbie.
Just wanted to ask which days everyone is taking their Clomid? I did CD 1-5 on my first attempt and got my daughter. My doctor said to take it CD 3-7 which I understand is the most standard protocol, but I read on the internet that CD 1-5 gets more pregnancies, and I thought it couldn't hurt.
I read in another place, that for women who don't ovulate regularly and are on like CD 50 or something, they actually have a bigger chance of getting pregnant if they take the Clomid for 5 days in the middle of the cycle, than if they use Provera to make a period then do CD 3 - 7, and that the reason why is because Clomid thins the uterine lining, but if you take it mid cycle your lining has already had time to thicken.

I prefer that people take it CD 3-7. Taking it CD 1-5 is risky because you may not have enough time for your lining to regrow before blocking the estrogen with the Clomid and it will make you ovulate sooner as well so really not the best for most people. It's great that you were able to conceive that way but I'd not count on it to happen in the future.
I strongly urge everyone who is NOT using Clomid under the strict guidance of a doctor (and I am including the people whose docs just hand them Clomid with no help or monitoring) to not ever, ever, EVER take Clomid in the middle of the cycle. There is a (VERY) small minority of women who can start Clomid in the middle of the cycle. This is not 99.9% of everyone who is on this site. I do not want ANYONE starting Clomid midcycle unless their doctor has given them bloodwork or ultrasound to determine where they are in the cycle. Taking Clomid midcycle without this monitoring can lead to the development of ovarian cysts or even serious harm to an unborn baby if one was to take it after ovulation/conception has occurred.

Well, the Clomid probably didn't make your LP short, it was (just as you say) because you recently had a baby.
Agree that you sometimes will still manage to ovulate on your own the next month off the Clomid BUT again that's not always applicable to people who have had a baby within the last 6-12 months.
I think you guys should have unprotected sex every 4 or 5 days and see if you can catch the egg. Or, you can wait for your cycle to normalize a little bit more and then do the Clomid. Totally up to you.
The reason why there's not that much info about trying for a close child spacing is that very, very few doctors will give Clomid to women who have proven fertility, and additionally those who have just had a baby. Since you can only be on Clomid 12-18 months over the course of your entire life, doctors are not willing to hand over the Clomid if you don't have a great chance of conception (which most will not that soon after having a baby). It just isn't sound medical practice to medicate people who don't need it, and additionally to give medication that must be limited, in situations where people don't have a good chance of successfully conceiving with it.

Hi!
This is a pointless update, but just for me to collect my thoughts. I'm possibly O+9 today, but still don't know whether I ovulated. If I did ovulate it was Monday 9 days ago, and DH and I had one attempt then, so it was good timing.
Why I think I didn't ovulate: The next two mornings after O I had no temp rise, and in my previous cycles, temp would rise pretty quickly. Sometimes it would jump, and sometimes it would climb (I think climbing is a sign I conceived), but it would always go up at least a little after O.
Why I might have ovulated: Just for fun I checked my temp this morning and it was definitely a post-O temp for me.
Intuitively, I do not feel like I am pregnant, but I will be happy if I at least ovulated and have at least a 10 day luteal phase.

We have been finding that some gals are not seeing a reliable temp rise for a day or two past when they expect to. The immediate temp rise is not proving to be as reliable as we once thought it to be and we're seeing people O without a temp rise right away and even people ahving a temp rise for a day or so without ovulation (then their temp goes back down, or else it goes up in a stairstep pattern and only after a few rises do they finally ovulate)

Thanks, that gives me hope that I did ovulate. I'm still unsure though. It took me 12 months to get pregnant with #1 and I was an obsessive compulsive temper then, so in addition to doing BBT first thing in the morning, I'd also be checking in the evening, and if my temp was higher than 98.6 in the evening, then I def ovulated, and if it was lower than 97.8 in the evening, then I hadn't ovulated. Since having my baby (and trying for #2), I have really been slacking off on temping, either not temping at all, or getting it a few minutes after waking up, which makes it really hard to decipher. Anyway, for the last two days I've gotten post-Ovulation temps in the morning (not quite first thing though), and pre-Ovulation temps in the evening. I thought I knew all of the things that artificially raise or lower temp (bath or drinking tea, or sleeping more than normal raises, exercise actually lowers because all the air cooling down the mouth).
All I know is that I didn't get my period yet, and if I don't have it by Sunday morning I'll POAS.

It is a weird irony that sometimes the people who are the most into temping end up having problems getting pregnant. It may be because let's say your temps happen to follow a slightly different pattern than the norm, and so you are assuming you've ovulated based on those temps when you haven't and you may end up having attempts at the wrong times because the temps are tricking you. TEmping is a much better tool for avoiding pregnancy than it is for achieving it, honestly.
Studies have found that even highly trained people using cutting edge technology could only pinpoint their ovulation 1 out of 3 days. Temping is what it is but it's not as set in stone as we were once led to believe, at least for detecting ovulation to the day.
So what I would do in this case is add in an element of unpredictability and have sex unprotected every 4 days, even if you think you're days away from O, and even if you think ovulation has already occurred. We get good results with BD every 4 days for pink and it will guard against either early O or delayed O.
Or, you can also do OPK strips and use those to time an attempt instead of using your temping to do that. Totally up to you.

Update: today would be 13 days post ovulation and:
1. Negative POAS after a 6 hour hold
2. Pre-ovulation temp this morning
3. No period.
So, I'm not pregnant and I didn't ovulate. I just fell for a classic PCOS "fake out".
BTW, in case someone was wondering, I did not use clomid this cycle, but I did use it last month and it made me ovulate last month.

Hi, I have a question and am open to anyone's advice. Sorry if this is in the wrong place because it is about conceiving in general and not specifically swaying girl.
Should my next attempt be with 25 mg Clomid or 50 mg Clomid?
Background: I have thin PCOS (normal weight, no acne or hair problems, normal testosterone, but only ovulate on my own about 6 times a year, and that might be weak ovulation). Last year I got pregnant on my first round of Clomid 50 mg. This year, post partum and before getting a natural period I took Clomid 50 mg and ovulated but didn't get pregnant because I had an 8 day luteal phase (which is common post - partum, before getting pregnant I had an 11 -12 day luteal phase). Both times I had no side effects from the Clomid. I have 20 pills left (so enough for 4 more attempts if I use 50 mg), and they expire Feb 2019.
Reasons to take 25 mg: (1) The lowest dose of Clomid that makes you ovulate is the most effective because fewer side effects like thinning uterine lining and reducing cm. (2) If I cut my pills in half, that would give me 8 attempts instead of 4, and if this cycle my luteal phase is still too short to support a pregnancy, it would be a shame to only have 3 attempts left. (3) I wouldn't mind twins, but I'm scared of triplets or more.
Reasons to take 50 mg: (1) it got me pregnant in the past. (2) I didn't have any side effects that I knew about. (3) if 25 mg doesn't make me ovulate, it would be a shame to waste the Clomid and the time.

This is one of those crystal ball questions I really don't know the answer to. I feel like 50 mg is more of a known quantity than 25 for swaying and I trust it more than I do 25.
MrsEnglish
January 10th, 2018, 11:49 AM
You're right, now that I think about it, asking "if 50 mg Clomid made me ovulate, will 25?" is a question that only God would know the answer to, and it was silly to ask.
I want to update now just in case someone else in my shoes (using Clomid to try to have two children close together in age) finds it.
So two evenings ago (Jan 8) I ended up taking 25 mg Clomid and same thing last night. This morning I got my period which was really weird and unexpected because I don't think I ovulated this cycle, and Clomid is supposed to induce ovulation, not a period. But anyway, I'm going to continue taking 25 mg Clomid for the next three evenings, and hopefully it will make me ovulate. So instead of taking Clomid days 3 - 7 or 1 - 5, it's like I'm taking Clomid days -1 - 3, which is weird, weird, weird, so I'm just hoping for the best and I'll update.

This is NOT AF. It is breakthrough bleeding from the drop in estrogen that Clomid causes. Just finish taking the dose as you are meant to and you are NOT TAKING IT CD 1-3 that's not what has happened.

I am waiting for my first ppaf still- my ds is 13 months and I'm eager to start taking my clomid and ttc.
Nope, haven't had a natural ppaf yet, and I'm not breastfeeding.
3 months pp I took Clomid 50mg for 5 days, ovulated, but didn't get pregnant because I had an 8 day luteal phase. The next month I did not take Clomid and did not ovulate. About 12 days ago I still hadn't ovulated or had AF so I took 5 days of Clomid 25mg, and on the 3rd morning got period like bleeding that lasted for five days.
I'm waiting now to see whether I'll ovulate from the 25 mg Clomid. If it makes me ovulate, I should ovulate for sure within 25 days of starting the Clomid, so if by early February I haven't ovulated yet, I'll have to decide whether to:
A) Wait till I get AF or ovulate naturally
B) Take birth control for three weeks then stop, which should induce a period, then take Clomid, or
C) Just take a higher dose of Clomid for 5 days without having AF.
I have an impulsive personality, so I'm thinking it will probably be C, but on the other hand I decided that I want to get pregnant with #2 by September at the latest, but that still gives me 8 months, so I don't feel like I must get pregnant right now.
Are you breastfeeding? Are you planning on starting Clomid without Af, or waiting for AF?
atomic sagebrush
January 19th, 2018, 10:34 AM
Next time please don't take Clomid if you haven't had a period. I did not catch that you had taken Clomid without having a bleed and then you had a bleed after that. You have very likely messed up your body and it's going to take a couple months for things to work themselves out.
What can happen when you take Clomid at the wrong time of the month is that if you had an egg forming, it can, in essence, make that egg go to sleep or even become a cyst that then suppresses future ovulation for a couple months till it reabsorbs. NO MORE CLOMID until you have had a natural cycle. I do not think that tossing birth control pills now on top of all this is a great idea and I can't recommend doing that.
I really cannot ever (as you already know, sorry to repeat myself here, it's for the benefit of others reading this thread and not to repeat myself) recommend taking Clomid 3 months postpartum. Your body doesn't want to get pregnant and probably will simply refuse to cooperate.
It is medically nuts (to use a super scientific word there) to take MORE Clomid now. Seriously. Please do not take any more Clomid period, end of story. You are going to cause yourself to take longer to conceive and will not accomplish any of your goals plus taking Clomid too often over the course of your life may raise your risks of cancer.
Option A, wait to get AF naturally. That is the ONLY CHOICE here. No birth control, no more Clomid.

Yes im breastfeeding still and that's probably why my af hasn't returned. I have tried vitex but no af yet however I have had some symptoms of o this week so time will tell. I've had cramps, some ewcm amd even some spotting so fx something is happening.
Fx you do ovulate this month and catch the egg- I understand wanting close spacing I have felt the same but my body has other ideas lol!
And thanks for clearing that up Atomic I was reading this thread thinking maybe starting clomid will make me o before my first natural ppaf but I can see how that won't work thanks again.

Hi all..
I have been ttc for the last 6 months with no good news while on LE diet. One attempt or ed4 hasn’t been working too.
My last 2 cycles went haywire stretching up to 40-45 days, my cycle usually is 28-30days.
Decided to see a gynecologist... on CD2, and am given Clomid 50mg but asked to take 2 tablets for the next 5 days to help ovulate.
Seeing that most people are only on 50mg... is 100mg too much?

The best dose of Clomid is the smallest does that makes you ovulate. If you don't ovulate on 50 mg, then no problem to go to 100 mg. But, I think it's weird to start with 100 mg, especially if you are ovulating on your own. I'd start on 50 mg if I were in your place. There are side effects like thinking your uterine lining and reducing cervical mucus, also risk of over stimulation, and higher dose = more side effects, so you don't want a higher dose than you need.

Hi!
I didn't answer this yesterday, because I don't know. I would GUESS that it's fine to cut the dose, but I'd hate telling you when I'm not sure. The reason that I would think it is okay is because after 5 days you suddenly stop taking Clomid altogether, so it's not one of the medicines that you have to slowly wean off of.
Good luck!

If your doctor has prescribed 100 to you it is probably fine, but I prefer you guys take 50 when a doctor is NOT involved because I don't want you to conceive multiples!!
I would go to every 4 days plus one more attempt at positive OPK now.

Hi atomic i have a question, how long does it take for clomid to get in my system? I will only take 25mg days 3-7 because I’m very nervous about the side effects. I always over react from hormones. Is two cycles enough for me to sway girl?

Side effects: the side effect most people complain about is headache, but if you take Clomid right before going to sleep that will reduce your side effects, so I recommend that. I take mine before bed and have never had any side effects with 50 mg. The smaller the dose, the less side effects. Other side effects for your fertility include reduced cervical mucus (I still had plenty), and thinning your uterus lining (which is bad for conception, but you would not notice this unless you do ultrasounds). The thinning of your uterine lining is one of the reasons that you should not take Clomid for more than 4 - 6 months in a row. If your lining gets too thin, you can't get pregnant. Another side effect is that Clomid usually lengthens your luteal phase, which is good for getting pregnant, but can lead to hard disappointment if your period is late but you're not pregnant it's just because the Clomid made your lp longer, so keep that in mind.

I had all of the signs of ovulation, and this morning I had a higher body temp, but I also slept in a lot longer than usual. I'm gonna get a normal amount of sleep tonight, and if tomorrow morning's temp is high, I'll be pretty sure I ovulated.
I had one attempt at insemination, two days ago, so timing would have been great if I did ovulate.

Ok, why is that? And is 25 mg enough to sway girl? Are there many side effects?
Because you can only take it 6 months (if that long, many docs will only allow 3/4) in a row before you have to stop using it. This is because if you take it many months in a row you will end up temporarily infertile. So taking it and not trying is wasting a month of time you could have been trying to conceive and gets you one month closer to the time when you can no longer use it. It's like burning up $100 hoping that you may get $125 the next month.
I prefer 50 mg but some people have taken 25. Totally up to you.

:agree: there are also some rarer but serious side effects like cysts, allergic reactions, vision changes, and so on. Those things would mean you couldn't take Clomid any more.

I'm pretty sure I O'd!! I had another high bbt this morning, and I was a bit suspicious of it, because I had spontaneously woken up about twenty minutes before I was supposed to get up, so i temped after laying in bed awake for twenty minutes, but I'm feeling pretty confident now because on my way to work I had a fit of "progesterage" -- the tendency to anger I get when my progesterone is high. It's pretty ridiculous. Nothing bad or annoying happened to me today, I was just recalling past incidences of when people "did me wrong" and getting myself all worked up and cussing out the offenders in my head.
So I think I have about a 1/5 chance of being pregnant now.

Progesterage haha yes I'm very familiar with that. I try and try to explain to my husband "no I get PMS for about a week after I ovulate, has nothing to do with my period, if anything getting my period is a relief!" But men think "eh she's on the rag" or whatever. :/

Uninteresting update: I'm 9 DPO. My gut feeling is that I'm not pregnant this cycle, but if I have at least a 10 day luteal phase I'll be happy. Last time I only had an 8 day luteal phase. If I don't see AF by 13 DPO which is Monday, I'll POAS.

12 DPO and no AF yet!!
Pre-pregnancy I'd always get AF 12 DPO, sometimes morning, sometimes evening.
I'm trying not to let myself get too excited because AF isn't "late" until tomorrow morning. Also, the Clomid I took could have just made my luteal phase longer, since I don't know how Clomid affects my luteal phase since the two other times I used it I either got pregnant or had an 8 day luteal phase (when used shortly post partum).
Intuitively, I do not feel pregnant at all. When I was this far along the time I was pregnant, I already had felt implantation, was having itchiness, light headedness, and uterine cramping after orgasm. I have none of that now, and feel great and clear headed.

Hello My Swaying Friends! It has been awhile! I need some advice from Clomid and Femara experts! My OB just had a baby and isn't available for questions right now.
I have been on Clomid and Femera for 12 months - (3 Clomdid, 2 Femera, 3 clomid, 4 Femara) . The last 2 rounds of Femara they added Progesterone - which shortened my cycle ( even though I started it day 17, well after I ovulated)
My last cycle was only 19 days!! (I am normally 28 with nothing, 28 on Femara and 33 on Clomid)
We decided to let my body rest for several months... so even with NO meds.. this month my period came on day 18!! Has anyone else had an issue with their cycle shortening after meds? I am concerned that my body now wont ovulate without meds. And using Progesterone - even for only 2 months - has totally messed me up!
My daughter was conceived naturally on day 12- with 3 months of swaying. We are desperate for several more baby girls :( But now I am all mixed up!

Yes IMVVVVHO you should have been off meds for at least part of that time. Reading that actually makes me break into a cold sweat. :/ It's no wonder your cycle is screwy!
I think you are going to see some weirdness for at least a month or two while this works itself out. Can u give me more information? Why were you on the medication? Are you not ovulating on your own? Are you taking anything else? Were you following a sway diet for part of this time? What are you eating now?

I actually was off for a few cycles in there :) But during those months my cycle went back to normal right away.
The issue is my husband - I do ovulate normally but we needed to give him more targets. I had blood work and ultrasounds each month and i was reacting perfectly ( not over producing, great numbers all around) We added Progesterone " just to see" and both times it shortened my cycle - but then we stopped everything all together.
I was sway dieting and still am for the most part. We had used a small amount of PreSeed ( not not much, per your advice)
I do have metformin that I could take.. but i havent since last march because it didnt seem to help and gave me tummy troubles

Hi! Clomid and Femara are not meant to be taken for so long. I agree that you need a while off drugs. Especially progesterone since your cycle shortened after that. Your husband having a low sperm count already sways girl, so I think you should consider dropping any sways that hurt conception chances.
Could you afford IVF where they actually insert the sperm into the egg? Because if your DH's sperm count is too low, having two eggs instead of one doesn't seem like it would help that much, because if the sperm are making it there they could fertilize the one egg... Maybe IUI would help the sperm get closer?
I'm a big fan of Clomid, but I'm just not sure it is the best move in your case. OTOH, I've heard if the MAN takes Clomid, it can improve his sperm count.
Hope you get good news soon

You want to wait until you get full blown AF to start Clomid, not just spotting. If you seem like you have AF but not sure because it lighter than normal, POAS because you can be pregnant and have bleeding, and if you take Clomid in early pregnancy it can cause miscarriage.
Anyway, to answer your question, I take it right before going to sleep. While you want to take it around the same time each day, taking it a 9 pm one night and 11 pm the next night is fine.

So hubby has MFI so we are trying to make you pop more eggs? Just want to be sure I understand the reasoning. Because as long as you're ovulating regularly and don't have PCOS (right?) then the Metformin is not going to help anything. If it's on DH's end we need to focus on that. Is he on any vitamins?

:agree: yes you need to wait for the actual flow to begin and start counting from there, unless your period always starts 14 DPO with a day or two of spotting and that's just the norm for you. Either way, though, it's forgiving stuff, ok to start CD 2 or 4 or 5 even so if you aren't sure just take your best guess.
Most will take right before bed to minimize symptoms.

1. The most common side effect (from people I know online) of Clomid is headache and moodiness. I haven't really heard many people complain about nausea, vomiting, or vision problems as side effects of Clomid, but they are listed, and those are also side effects of alcohol, so the reason they say no alcohol with Clomid is because if Clomid causes nausea as a side effect and so does alcohol, then you could get really bad nausea since they both contribute. So IMO if after 5 days, you haven't had any side effects of Clomid, then you should be able to drink a reasonable amount of alcohol. If you are taking Clomid for fertility problems, it's probably best to skip the alcohol because alcohol slightly hurts conception. If you are taking Clomid just for swaying, then a reasonable amount of alcohol should be fine (IMO).
2. Like I said, I've heard very few complaints about nausea as a side effect of Clomid, so I wouldn't be too worried about it, but if you do get nausea there are a lot of home remedies you can try, and I can see how sucking on a lolly could help. When I was pregnant and had nausea, drinking flavored water and soda pop helped. Some people swear by Ginger for nausea.
What day are you on now? I'm CD 7 of my cycle.

Before getting pregnant or using Clomid, when I'd ovulate on my own it would always be CD 21 - CD 23.
My first round of Clomid when I took it properly (after getting AF naturally), I ovulated on CD 17 and got pregnant.
Three months after birth I took Clomid without having had AF, and ovulated really early for me, I think about a week after finishing the Clomid, and I actually think that I did conceive that cycle but it didn't stick because I had an 8 day luteal phase.
About a month and a half after that I took 25 mg Clomid midcycle and ovulated 27 days later but didn't get pregnant despite a good luteal phase.
So now I just took 50 mg Clomid after having AF, so I'd guess that I'll ovulate around CD 17, but anything from CD 12 to CD 27 wouldn't be surprising.

I dont have PCOS - but they thought a low dose of metformin could regulate any issues we arent catching.
Also - since Sept - it seems like every month something weird happened - Flu on last day of Clomid, UTI on Optimal O day, Food Poisoning by husband on day 13 (We DTD day 12 and 15... but maybe missed the perfect day?) Etc. So maybe all of these are just flukes?

I think I missed this, sorry!
The Clomid+alcohol is due to the fact that it may cause dizziness. Tons of people have had alcohol while on Clomid, just don't operate any heavy machinery if you do, LOL. It is only while you're taking it, not the rest of the time (although sometimes doctors will cluck their tongue since they don't want anyone drinking while TTC, of course - but just stop drinking after ovulation and it is fine.)
If you take the Clomid at night before bed you shouldn't have any nausea but yes it's fine to suck some hard candy if it helps.
Whatever kind of mixer with your alcohol you'd like. If you're ahving it between meals (and it is best to have alcohol with meals, but that is a rule many of us have bent or broken, myself included) you should have no sweetener or artificial sweetener. if you're having it with a meal it's fine to have a non-diet, sugary mixer with it.

Not a problem atomic I just skipped alcohol last night to see how the clomid went. I am a little blurry this morning but only up close stuff.
I never drank alcohol before the sway so I’ve been having it with food to help absorb its effects, I really shouldn’t mix it with metformin either but I think that’s because they both drop blood sugar. I generally only have 1or2 and I’m fine. Quite enjoyed it.

Yes Met and alcohol are worse combo than Clomid and alcohol that's for sure but it's very rare and usually only in heavy drinkers that it can be a problem.
I would start OPK 3 days after your last dose of Clomid. You may want to have an attempt that day too just to cover you for the next couple days. It is highly unlikely, even impossible to O sooner than the 5th day after taking the Clomid. Yes the Clomid can cause false pos on the OPK, but this is gone by the 3rd day and even if it's not, by having attempt either way you're covered just in case the one in a billion chance that you O sooner more like the 4th day after Clomid (that has only happened once that I am aware and I wonder if the person who had that happen had skipped a day possibly)

You don't have to have that attempt if you don't want to. It's fine to skip it, just that I feel like people get a lot of stress if they then get a positive OPK that day - is it real, is it a faker, they don't know what to do.
It's not super likely you'll get the pos OPK CD 12. What you can do instead is to plan to have the "just in case" attempt CD 12 instead. That way you'll be covered if you get positive that day, CD 13, and CD 14. Then attempt again CD 15 (for better odds of conception) or CD 16 (for better odds of pink.)
Or, don't do any of that and just wait till positive OPK! Totally your call to make.

How are you doing Mrs English?

Thanks for asking, I'm doing good, I think I'm CD 14 today, and haven't had any ewcm or feeling of fullness in ovaries yet. I usually start getting those about 3 days before O. I'm not at all worried yet because it's still so early.
I have been unusually moody. Usually during the follicular phase I'm super calm and peaceful, but not this time. I am telling myself I need to deal with it because I know if I get pregnant, the moodiness lasts the whole nine months, so I need to learn to deal with it and not just wait for it to be over.
Luckily, for me, so far, the moodiness doesn't come out at people, I'm usually just alone and start thinking about either someone I know personally from the past who was an asshole, or someone famous who is an asshole, and I just get these really intense fantasies of revenge. I don't think I'm a psychopath because in all the violent fantasies, the bad guy physically attacks me first, then I kick their ass. In the non violent ones, I just cuss out the asshole, usually in front of a crowd of people. Then half an hour later, I'm like "OMG, what is wrong with me? I'm so glad that didn't really happen!" And then I tell myself the angry spells are actually a good sign because it means I'm more likely to get pregnant. And I thank God that no one pissed me off during the angry spell, so it just played out in my head and not in real life.
So I'll be happy for any tips on dealing with hormone induced moodiness 😃

Also, I've had like 3 or 4 pimples in the past few days on my chin, neck and back. I had some pimples during my teens, but I haven't had them for a few years already, so it's weird.
Is this a sign that my testosterone is rising? I also have a lone, bizarrely long hair on my forehead, it's white-blond so not noticeable to anyone else. Should I be freaked out?

I have had a couple moody pregnancies (one in particular) and then other ones were not like that so just because your prev. pregnancy was moody, doesn't mean they all would be.
I think those thoughts are totally normal, please don't think you're alone or crazy. They have had some success with medication for a week after O so you may want to talk to your doc about that to get some relief. :)

Ha! this is so funny & so what I needed to hear right now. Pretty cool that you whoop ass, go girl :) I had the most "angry" weekend. I havent felt that out of control of my emotions for a long time. Is it the clomid? I wondered if it could be what its doing to the hormones. Its actually made me feel nervous about my sway because I had all the doubt, anxiety under control & bam here it was/is again...
Hopefully ovulation comes soon Mrs English.

Yes, and thats what I have been kicking myself about ;( I dont know, the last 3 days of clomid & the weekend I felt out of myself again with the anx & anger. Could that be hormonal response? Just hoping the short term effects don't overpower the last 3 months diet, exercise, clomid, metformin, coffee etc
Ive got a fair supply so Ill do one attempt at +ve opk, followed by E4D until AF this month. Then onto E4D from next month to try and forget about all the nitty gritty stuff or FLIP a coin!!!!

CD 15 and no signs of upcoming ovulation, which is disheartening because I usually get signs 3-4 days before O, so I'm probably not going to O on CD 17, like I did the cycle I got pregnant.
I got pregnant the first time I ever took Clomid (after 11 months trying unsuccessfully naturally), so I am really hoping that Clomid is a magic bullet for me, and not that I just happened to get extremely lucky the cycle I took it.

Woo hoo! I have borderline ewcm today! It's a bit thicker than it gets when it's totally ewcm, and I'm getting less of it that I normally do right before O, but I predict that I'll get total ewcm starting tomorrow, and that I'll O between Saturday and Monday.
TMI, but DH and I dtd now, just in case the Clomid changed my hormones so that this is all the ewcm I get. I doubt it though, because I don't have the "full ovary" feeling I get right before O. But it was just in case, and so that I don't have to be stressed out worried that I missed the opportunity.
So the plan is to dtd again on Saturday night (assuming I have ewcm then), and again Monday night if I haven't O'd by then. So we're likely not going to do one attempt only, but I feel like Clomid and me not eating meat is a strong sway by itself.
Totally TMI, but I'll update with what my cervical mucus looks like tomorrow.

There are always side effects on Clomid regardless of why you are taking it. Has nothing to do with whether you ovulate without it or not.

I'm not sure what's going on with my body right now. Yesterday I had the peak of ewcm and full feeling in ovaries. Today still have a little of that feeling and a bit of ewcm. No temp rise. So either I didn't O yet, or I O'd and am having a delayed temp rise. The cycle that I got pregnant I had a delayed temp rise and I had ewcm for a couple days after O. We made a solid attempt Thursday evening, and I planned on doing it Sat or Sun too but didn't, but we are going to do it this evening, so it's been a good 4 days since last attempt.
I wish I had my own home ultrasound machine to see what's really happening in my ovaries!

Ooh, emshe, looks like you're really getting close! Do you temp? Do you know from previous cycles about how long it takes you to ovulate after getting a positive OPK?
Me and DH made another attempt last night, and this morning I had a borderline temp and I still have a small amount of ewcm, so I still don't know whether I ovulated yet, I'm guessing I did last night which would be great timing.
So we did two attempts this cycle, but they were 4 days apart. Atomic, does that count as one attempt if they are that spaced? Of course there is the possibility that I O'd Saturday or Sunday and just had a really slow temp rise, and then it would definitely be just one attempt, but I'm hoping I O'd last night because then I would have fresh sperm instead of 3 day old sperm.

You can't tell that you'll ovulate sooner or later on Clomid, could be either way. You also can't assume anything based on how fast your OPK went positive last month. That doesn't mean anything for this month.
If this turns positive, BD tonight. You ~may~ even want to BD tonight anyway just in case it never goes to fully positive (but you'll have time to decide that).

I do temp but mine gets a bit confusing with often taking a few step temp rise after positive opk instead of a one dramatic spike if you know what I mean. Good luck emshe, fingers crossed for you!
I sometimes get a nice dramatic temp spike, but sometimes get a slow rise, so I'm not sure when I O'd this cycle, but I definitely O'd. This morning I had a nice high temp.
If I go by which day I had maximal ewcm and feeling of fullness in ovaries, then I O'd Sunday, but I'm hoping that's not so because that would give me lower odds of conception since I dtd Thursday night and Monday night.
If I go by temp rise, then I either O'd late Monday or on Tuesday, either would be great timing.
For POAS purposes, I'm going to assume that I O'd on Monday and that I'll have a 12 day luteal phase, so I'm expecting AF between Mar 22 - Mar 24, and if I don't get it by Mar 25 I'll POAS.

Hey emshe, I have a question for you and anyone else who takes Clomid and is reading this:
Do you feel "fullness" in your ovaries around ovulation? For me it is not painful but it is an obvious feeling, I guess I would think it was annoying if I didn't want to get pregnant, but since when I feel it I know I'm about to ovulate I kinda like it. Especially if I press with my hands on my belly over where my ovaries are, I don't feel anything with my hands, but I get a feeling from inside.
I tried to Google "fullness in ovaries" but the only thing that came up was either OHSS or from gals taking meds for IVF and producing a whole lot of eggs. Of course that made me wonder if I'm producing a lot of eggs from Clomid. When I got pregnant I had a singleton, but maybe I released 5 eggs and only one took...

I do Mrs English, but like atomic I always have felt ovulation time. This time the pressure pain was pretty full on but that happens occasionally too.
I too am a bit baffled by a few differences this cycle, I guess only time will tell. My body clock is out and I’m waking up every night at 1,3 & 5 so my temps aren’t very reliable this cycle unfortunately. Boo!!

So ff has just put ov at day of attempt (Tuesday night with +ve opk appearing then) but it definitely wasn’t. Had bad pressure pain the following night and even into Thursday morning. I still feel a bit weird, gassy, & saw some small amounts ew again yesterday to be honest. Temping has been a bit unreliable too as I’ve been waking at 1,3,5. This mornings at 5, which is slightly dipped is the first sleep through I’ve had...
I was planning to BD tonight, 72 hours after first attempt. Is this the best plan of action atomic?

Not sure what’s going on with me... 7dpo I think??? And I have had some spotting, mostly when I wipe but it seems more than what implantation bleeding would be. AF is due 26th.
My question is in case it turns into full AF should I try clomid earlier this time, if it’s shortened my luteal phase, would it be better to take it earlier. Dr did mention day 1-5.
And how do I know for sure it’s AF to take it earlier anyway? POAS this early wouldn’t be real helpful would it.

I'd be really hesitant to take Clomid within the next few days just in case your pregnant and it's a lot of implantation bleeding. And I'm totally not an expert, but I feel like if it is AF and Clomid really gave you a 7 day LP, then Clomid just isn't for you and taking it a few days earlier won't help that much. If it's AF, I wouldn't give Clomid a second chance, I'd go to Femara. Honestly even trying naturally would be better than a 7 day LP.
Really wishing you the best!

The first thing we need to do is have you add in a serving of full fat dairy, 4-6 eggs a week, and a serving of salmon if you like it, and red meat if you don't. (you may already be doing this, but continue or even increase a little) and drop fiber.
NO I do not want you to take Clomid EARLIER. What is happening here is that the Clomid, which blocks estrogen, has been too effective and blocked too much estrogen, plus you were dieting and may have cut back too far, so when it came time for your body to make the secondary estrogen surge, you ran out of raw materials and/or the Clomid blocked estrogen production. At 7 DPO when the corpus luteum started to break down, your body couldn't make that boost of estrogen it needed to keep the lining going another week and your lining began to come off.
SOO what we need to do is NOT start Clomid early, we need to start it later to allow your body a little time to start the normal production of estrogen . This actually helps us on the "OMG when to start Clomid" issue too, because we CANNOT have you start Clomid 7 DPO without a reliable pregnancy test, since you can have bleeding in early pregnancy and you must not under any circumstances start Clomid without taking a pregnancy test first. So I would have you wait till 5 days after this bleeding has started (that is, unless you have ANOTHER bleed when AF is due!!) and take a pregnancy test and the Clomid that day.
If you do have another bleed starting when AF is due then that may indicate the first bleed wasn't really AF and you shouldn't start the Clomid, in that case. If you already started the Clomid and have another bleed then take another pregnancy test just to be on the safest side.

Thank you atomic. I do all those things, and dropped finer about a month or more ago but my weight loss doesn’t seem to be stopping & I am feeling really fatigued. I don’t know how to up it. I read another thread about adding empty white carbs to add weight, can you give me some ideas? I have been a no sugar person nor processed food eater for so many years I am actually clueless.
With regard to taking the Clomid what happens if the bleeding continues until af is due & beyond, how do I know when to start Clomid again, my period is due Monday & my AF usually lasts at least 5-6 full days so will extend beyond then?
Should I use a frer now?
Again Monday or Tuesday?

Don't bother with FRER now. It's very unlikely you'd get a positive even if you're pregnant.
I want you to wait 5 days from now (so we assume this is Cycle Day One unless something happens that makes us think that is not the case) and then take a pregnancy test and start the Clomid that day. So then instead of taking it days 1-5 or 3-7 you would take it 5-9.
The only thing I am concerned about is if this bleeding stops or really trails off a lot, and then you get a "real" AF when it is due on CD 14 (so you would have taken Clomid for 2 days before in that case, IF the bleeding has continued and seemed like an actual period) I think that is extremely unlikely. It's much more likely that a) this is actually AF, arriving early or b) that if this is some sort of weird spotting, it is going to be glaringly obvious that it is not AF and you'll know in advance whether or not to start the Clomid in 5 days' time.
Eat ANYTHING. Anything that sounds good to you. We have to get a handle on the weight loss because you are not going to get pregnant. EVen things that feel "forbidden". We can't have you losing any more weight.

I think I get it, but my real AF is due in only 3 days (today is CD 25) as I’m due on CD28, that’s what will be confusing as Im so close to being due. Bleeding doesn't seem to be stopping.
So do FRER CD28 & take clomid that night if -ve, as that will be 5 days from now. Yesterday afternoon was only spotting when I wiped. Today (CD25) has been bleeding onto liner, so am I right to assume this as CD1?
Keep the no breakfast & no snacking, and exercise daily, but just eat whatever with limited protein still?
Salt & vinegar chips sound good right now & always!
EDIT: Lunchtimes addition of corn chips were so yummy in my mexican chicken salad, and the cream bun was outrageous :)

Exact same thing has happened to me on Femara! I think I am 8 or 9dpo and AF seemed to have just started.
However, this is my third post partum period and my last luteal phase was only 7 or 8 days so it has lengthened by one day.
I ovulated on day 16/17 with Femara though (this was my first cycle) and it was day 23/24 naturally so Femara has moved it forward a few days.
Atomic - should I do the same? Wait until cd 5 to take Femara or just take it on day 3 as per last month? Thanks so much for your advice.
For the record, when ttc my last baby, I had the same thing - luteal phase lengthened by a day each month until it got to 9 days long and then I got pregnant. So maybe it is just what my body does - it likes to take its times to restore regularity!
I have been eating hardly any dairy though so will add some back in. I will also add a bit more protein as again - have been mainly vegan and empty carbs. I have also been having a glass of wine a night and two/ three coffees a day.
Thanks for any advice ladies and best of luck!

Most of my previous instructions were for if you stopped bleeding, like this was only for a day or two and then a more normal AF came in a few days.
The thing we're trying to avoid is taking Clomid when you are pregnant. So on CD 5, yes, take the pregnancy test and the Clomid that night if the test is negative.. It will still be 2 days before real AF is due but the vast majority of people will get a positive test by 12 DPO. And if you feel like it isn't a real AF, if it's lighter or barely there, then obviously we will revisit this. And if you DO get bleeding (or more bleeding, like a fresh flow) on the day real AF is due, take another pregnancy test and see if it's positive. If it is, stop the Clomid. If it isn't, continue.
The chances that you're pregnant AND having this bleed now AND that it won't register on 12 DPO is really quite small and I feel comfortable with you starting the Clomid 12 DPO with a negative test...if YOU do. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, totally cool, we can just try naturally this month also, your call to make.
Keep no breakfast (but feel free to add it in if you need anohter meal to get enough calories), keep no snacking (I prefer you to simply add in a meal instead of snacking all day!!), keep exercise, up calories but try to keep protein and fat to 50-60 g. I think you're on the alternate diet as well, right? So you will likely benefit from adding in SOME empty carbs or even sugar, just don't go overboard, still focus on whole grains, fruit, and veg and then use empty carbs as a braking mechanism on the weight loss.

I really think it’s AF, yesterday CD1 it was medium, today CD2 is very heavy. That’s my normal pattern. Tomorrow will likely be super heavy again. Then a couple of medium days.
Will test Monday & take if negative. Thinking this, or next is it for me. It’s coming up to 3 years on this Dream & I’ve got to get back to living. Is E4D my best option this time too?
Yes I’m on the fertility diet so have been using potatoes & white rice as the carbs. Sorry I’m so naive but I’ve been so set in my ways with healthy low gi for years that empty carbs are foreign to me, is that things like white bread and baked goods? I had a biscuit, crisps and some corn chips yesterday? Are those ok or go for more bread? Feel free to send me a long distance forehead slap!!!

Today is POAS day, but I didn't do it this morning because last cycle I tested first thing in the morning then got AF like an hour later, so I decided to POAS in the evening. Well I went through out the morning and afternoon without seeing any red when I wiped. Then in the evening I had some errands to run, so I decided to hold my pee while doing them them the test when I got back home. While running errands, I had the slightest hint of nausea, and I started thinking "maybe, maybe...". I got home, got a plastic cup to pee in, when to the toilet, pulled down my undies and saw bright red spotting. So I didn't use the pregnancy test.
If I don't have a heavy flow by tomorrow evening, then I will POAS before taking Clomid, but I fully expect to wake up to real AF. So I'm not 100% out yet, but I'm pretty darn close. In my mind I'm already preparing for the next cycle.

On the bright side, now I have an opportunity to really buckle down and lose weight before getting pregnant with #2. I'm still about 4 lbs heavier than I was before getting pregnant with #1, and my weight hasn't changed since January. Losing a few lbs will help both my girl sway and my body image. Also this whole time I have been eating a lot of things that PCOS women really shouldn't eat when trying to conceive, and I'm going to change that now. Thanks so much for the support! Unfortunately, I am out this cycle. What is really cool about next cycle is if I get pregnant next cycle I won't know whether I'm having a 2018 baby or a 2019 baby until the baby is born! I'm guessing that I'll ovulate around April 15, and I put that into an online calculator that calculates due date based on ovulation date, and it said my due date would be Jan 5, 2019, but I went a little early with my daughter, so if I went as early again it would be late 2018.
Good luck to everyone else on conceiving this cycle!

YOU NEED TO STILL TAKE A PREGNANCY TEST EVEN IF YOU GET YOUR PERIOD BEFORE TAKING CLOMID!!
I know you said you would but I just want to stress that for anyone casually skimming this thread. This is MANDATORY. You guys, take this from someone who has actually had this happen, you can have a completely normal period (or what seems to be a period, anyway) that lasts several days and is normal/heavy, and be pregnant the entire time. Since taking Clomid while pregnant can cause your baby serious harm, you MUST take a pg test every month even when there is bleeding that you are 110% sure is AF. You can lose a twin, you can have placenta previa, you can have heavy implantation bleeding or a SCH, you can have bleeding from cervical erosion or injury or a fibroid, or just a "confused" part of your lining that comes off even as a pregnancy is getting started. PLEASE take a test before starting Clomid! :)

Thanks atomic, I will do just the fmu digital dual Clearblue only, last time I got so worked up over testing with opks it was nightmarish that’s partly why I was happy to do E4D. If all goes like last time i should already be having attempt morning after positive opk (opk turned positive late pm)
What about every 60 hours instead of 72?
I will have to do some reading on SMEP. I might just have Next cycle off then try again. Just see what a month without it all is like...

Once we start moving the attempts that much closer together I don't like it because it may sway blue and it doesn't really even up odds of conception much anyway (you often end up with just one attempt in fertile window anyway) I much prefer the regular e4d attempts plus an attempt at pos OPK for better chances of conception.
I'm not necessarily advocating SMEP, it's really more of a last ditch effort. People will eventually get preggo on e4d plus one but SMEP may make it happen sooner, rather than later, that's all.

I feel comfy with e4d but I think an attempt is already falling on morning AFTER likely positive opk (based on last cycle- but day after positive opk ov pain & temp suggested that to be ovulation day)
So in this scenario where E4d is due on morning after positive opk Do we attempt 2xBD am & pm? Or am I better to do night of positive opk & morning after? Night of positive would be only 60 hours since last E4D attempt. In case ovulation does occur the day after positive opk?
Sorry for all the questions, not sure if it’s a bit confusing!?
Hubby also had an accident today, plant caused major chemical burns to the eyes so has been put on antibiotic & anaesethic drops as well as codeine/paracetamol. Are these girl sway ok?
Agh!!!!
I hope you have a lovely weekend atomic

Morning after positive OPK is within the window to conceive. In that case what you would do is have attempt the night of positive OPK and then again the next day sometime. That's fine and would be e4d plus one.
Please stop worrying about the number of hours it is. Do e4d and then stick in another attempt whenever the positive OPK comes while continuing with the e4d pattern. You do not know when you ovulate in correlation to the OPK, the temp dip, or the O pains and sitting around counting the hours or doing complex math problems trying to figure out how many hours it is, is the exact type of "control freak" thinking I want you guys to avoid. Do e4d plus one more attempt at pos OPK and then stop thinking about it all together, just put it on autopilot.
It doesn't matter, hubby needs those things. I am so sorry to hear of his accident I hope he's better soon! The pain medication sways pink, we believe, and then while some sites claim antibiotics sway blue, I've never seen any evidence to that effect (and in fact some evidence otherwise) and it's unlikely that eye drops get into the system enough to make a difference even if they did sway blue.

Oh my gosh emshe I'm sorry to hear about your DH!!! Is he going to be ok?!!
LOL, atomic, I've totally done the counting hours between attempts, even trying to figure out the hours between the attempts + the number of hours for the sperm to capacitate and if there would be any sperm left from a previous attempt by the time new sperm are ready! I can see how it's very very control freaky :) :) I will say I've found trying to get that "one attempt in the fertile window" stressful at times! This last pregnancy we just did one attempt at +OPK and it worked so hopefully it will again in the future so I don't fall back in the trap of hour counting!!
emshe this is your 2nd month of Clomid right? Things could look different on your cycle this month vs last month having had the Clomid in your system now for two cycles. For example - I normally have a big delay (like, 3 or more days) between +OPK and temp rise, and this last cycle we got pregnant on I got my temp rise two mornings after the +OPK (so, way earlier than normal). I really think the Clomid caused more changes in my cycle that month, maybe b/c it was my 3rd cycle on it. My progesterone post O was also WAY way higher. So Clomid can change things.

ABC, thanks that's interesting to know that each cycle with Clomid is different. Before pregnancy I would ovulate on my own around CD 22, then on my first round of Clomid 50 mg I O'd on CD 17 and I got pregnant.
Now I'm trying again and my first attempt I only did 25 mg Clomid and O'd around CD 28, last month I did 50 mg Clomid and O'd around CD 22, and I am CD 6 now on my third round of Clomid, 50 mg this time. I'm hoping to O earlier in the cycle, but I guess it's out of my hands now.

Even beyond the control freak element of it, since we can't know when O occurs and how long sperm takes to capacitate and how long it stays alive, we can end up outwitting ourselves. For illustration lets say "Pinkerly" thinks she ovulates 42 hours after a positive OPK (based on an ultrasound of 3 years ago or temp chart or EWCM or whatever, none of which tell us anything about future cycles) and read that sperm take 4 hours to capacitate (even though that's simply the EARLIEST they capacitate) so because she doesn't want to have more than one attempt, but doesn't want to have it too early, she waits till 36 hours after the first positive OPK instead of having an attempt e4d that SHE BELIEVES may fall on O-3/O-Day. So she skips the O-3 attempt in favor of one attempt after pos OPK. But she was wrong about when she was going to ovulate, she Oes earlier than she thinks, and the O-3 attempt would actually have been perfect. Her urine was diluted and so she didn't catch the surge till the tail end, only a couple hours before ovulation. If she had done the e4d and BD on what she thought was O-3 she would have had a well timed attempt, even if she'd done the pos OPK attempt she would have been in with a decent timed attempt, but because she wanted to wait till 36 hours after pos OPK because she was worried about it and thought she knew what was going on, she actually outwits herself and misses the entire month.
The thing with e4d is that you CAN just luck your way into it. you can have all the misinformation in the world and you can still luck your way into it. So just do e4d! Don't count days, for SURE do not count hours, do e4d and leave it, and then in months when you go to e4d plus one, then do exactly that without trying to make it come out a certain way or pattern.

He’ll be ok. Silly plant... fell over in the heavy rain we had a week ago so we were doing what we could to save it. Mistake!!!!
I’m so glad he finally agreed to go to the hospital. Stubborn man. I’ve never seen him in so much pain, the car ride was awful the boys will be hard pressed to forget. But he’s feeling much better this morning. Fingers crossed they fully heal.
It will be interesting to see what happens this 2nd Clomid cycle, I’ve had a lot more energy taking it at the later start. When to start opk? I’m day 10 now, last Clomid was last night (lucky I thought to pop it in my bag while we went to the hospital) day 9.

Which type of OPKs are you using? I think I usually start the day after Clomid is done, but I use the CB dual hormone and you're supposed to start well in advance so it can track "high" fertility. I think it's supposed to take 7-10 days after you finish Clomid to O, but you don't know how you're body will react to taking it later in your cycle than you did last month.

I’m so glad you said that, that’s one I’ve got! So ill start tomorrow then as I’ve already been to the toilet this morning. Can I ask do you use a new handle every time? I did some reading about how it works and it’s based on your previously read levels to determine the rise, so I assume you need a new handle to reset it?

No I use the same handle each cycle until I run out of test strips and need a new box and then I'll switch to the new one. I buy boxes that have 20 strips so that lasts me about 3 cycles.

The Clomid can cause false positives for 3 days after you take the last dose so wait till then.
Emshe I think we may have talked about this in the past but i often have people wait till the 5th day after the last dose, start OPK that day, but also have an attempt that day too. This is because it is rare, if not impossible that you will ovulate any sooner than that, and it eliminates the possibility of confusion as to whether it's a real surge or not. So by having an attempt that day, and also starting the OPK, you're covered in case of ovulation on that day, but you're also starting OPK and you can be sure any OPK you get is legitimate and not a holdover from any Clomid still in your system.

Hi! How is everyone?
I am having a boring follicular phase (guess that's a good thing). I lost track, but think I'm CD 13 today. No ewcm yet, but I've never had it this early. I'm thinking about buying opks this cycle just for the extra reassurance, even though it's a PITA to have to hold my pee for hours then sneak off at work to POAS.
This cycle my mood has been better. Not sure if the Clomid is affecting me less, or if I have just gotten better at controlling my emotions. I've done a decent job dieting these past two weeks -- better than I have for the past few months, but not as good as the month before I got pregnant.
Hope everyone is well and that this is the lucky month for us.

So yesterday (aka the day after I updated saying everything was boring), I got up in the morning and felt unusually sexy. Actually, not so unusual -- because it usually happens to me in the few days before ovulation :)
Then I got some mixed ewcm -- which isn't the best pure ewcm that I get, but it's mixed (TMI) ewcm with chunks of cloudy cm, and I usually have it for about two days before getting pure ewcm.
So we made an attempt last night just to cover the bases, and we're planning an attempt Thursday night which will be a 4 day difference. If I had to guess, I'm guessing that I'll O on Friday.
I did buy OPKs for this cycle. Yesterday's was very negative. From previous natural cycles using OPKs and temping I found that I usually O two days after positive OPK, but Clomid could have changed that, so we'll see.

I am now cd 19 - I oved on 16/17 last cycle on Femara. Hmmm. Plus my temps seem to be post ov when I checked them a few days ago. But I doubt I could have oved at like cd 11/12 as that would be the earliest I ever have! It has really thrown me this month as I usually have at least 3 days of ewcm. So I am clueless as to what is happening! BDing E4D just in case!

Is it normal to ov on different days with Femara? I had pos opk on day 16 last month (first cycle on it) and I guess I just assumed it would be a bit earlier or similar on the second month. Worried it means I will have a weaker ovulation but I guess might not necessarily be the case.
I tend to ov on the later side naturally - don’t recall an earlier ov than cd 19 naturally but then I only have a few cycles to go on as I got pregnant with my boys after only a few natural cycles.
Many thanks for any advice!
I hope if not pregnant my lp is as least longer than 8/9 days this cycle.

Yes, it's totally normal. The odds are sky high that you will not ovulate a)the same day as normal or b) the same day from month to month on the fertility medicine (and this is TRUE no matter what your doc tells you! Doctors give out SOOOO much bad info on this front it's redonk)
This does not mean anything negative about your ovulation. Doesn't make any difference at all.

Well, DH and I made an attempt last night, really today around 3 am. Last evening and today I had "dark negative" opks -- still clearly lighter than the control, but a lot darker than they were before. I'm wondering if that's the darkest I'll get.
Today I still have ewcm, but a lot less than I did yesterday, so that is interesting. It seems like like cycle I stopped getting ewcm two days before temping said I ovulated.
I have a small amount of pressure in my ovaries today. Really hoping I O today or tomorrow, but I guess it's in God's hands now.

You are not trying to get the e4d to coincide with anything. That is why e4d WORKS is because everyone wants to manipulate their attempts to fall on a certain day when the reality is we don't KNOW a) when O occurs or b) what cycle day will even be best for conception regardless of when O occurs. People end up outwitting themselves aiming at BD on a certain day around O when for all we know, they don't even O then and even if they do, they might have had a better chance the day before or the day after.
Just put ovulation out of your head totally and have sex every 4 days in the Monday/Thursday pattern.

Thanks atomic. Good point!! Who even knows what is best? Conception is a very inexact science it seems! I just wanted to check something on E4D as you mention the Monday / Thursday patten. Is E4D Monday and then leave three days and have sex on the Friday? That is what we have been doing! Or is it Monday is day 1, tues and weds are 2 and 3 and then you’d have sex on the Thursday (day 4)? So if it was a week starting Monday you’d have sex on the Monday, the Thursday and then the Sunday?
Thanks so much!!!! You are such a great source of support.

So Friday night I had the strong "heavy ovary" feeling, and today (Saturday) they felt lighter again and my ewcm was all gone. So I'm just going to say today was O, and I'm not even going to take more OPKs this cycle or temp.
I've marked April 27 as POAS day.
If I'm not pregnant this cycle, I'm considering taking time off, as this is my third consecutive Clomid round.

Wishing you the best of luck MrsEnglish! Keeping everything crossed!
I am day 23 now and still no pos opk but lots of ov signs so who knows - maybe tomorrow? Still baffled by this cycle - it seems v late to ov. I has pos opk on day 16 on my first Femara cycle. I keep thinking maybe I had a chemical or something and it has thrown everything off kilter.
Either that, or I have started thinking I have some other issues like hypothyroidism or PCOS (although I have v low amh and my previous scans haven’t shown this - I guess I am just trying to find a reason for my tendency to have late ov both unmedicated and now this). Although I don’t recall an ov later than day 22 before. Might make a doctors appointment- although not sure if I could have things like hormone levels tested while using Femara? I am going to also start the atomic fertility diet. I have just been doing general LE up to now.
I also hope if not preggo I have a longer luteal. Anything over 9 days will be great. I must keep remembering though that I am only 4 cycles post partum! My son is 7 months.
I probably just need to chill the heck out and not do stuff like do opks and obsess about everything! That might move ov closer. Also pleased that I have realised that I was doing E4D wrong! Will now do what I would call every three days - one day on and two days off!
Sorry - last random thing - I might up my dose to 7.5mg next cycle to give me a stronger o as worried my short luteal is due to weak ov. If anyone has any thoughts or experience on this, would appreciate it.

CD24 and think I had a temp rise today so think I ovulated but no pos opk. The more I think about it, the more I think I have PCOS tendencies but without the cysts part. Or just lazy ovaries in general. Thinking of taking pregnitude for the next cycle as I hear it sways girl but also helps ovulation in general. I took something with myoinsotol the two cycles before I conceived DS2 and it did help me ov on cd19 - moved it from day 21 so it did something.

Thanks Pbn - I don’t chart religiously but just do the occasional temp to see where my cycle is, especially if I have confusing opks!
So far I am 4th cycle post bfing my youngest son:
1st cycle I am not sure how long as it was first pp cycle
Second cycle was 29 days (post opk on day 23)
Third cycle was 25 days (post opk on day 16) - 1st cycle on Femara 5mg
This is the fourth cycle (also on 5mg Femara) and I think I ovulated day 23 but can’t be sure as no clear post opk. Temp rise today.

MachesterMrs those are two very short lp's, and not what I would believe long enough to support a pregnancy (6 - 8 days). Not impossible but I would think unlikely. Is that why your taking femara? To try and lengthen lp?

but of course you can't tell if you're pregnant this soon. The thing is, there is a correlation between being extra "hormone-y" and being more likely to get a pregnancy test that month. So in a month you are high in estrogen and then high in progesterone, you may notice megasymptoms from hormones during and after ovulation that are caused by high hormone levels and NOT pregnancy, but those same hormone levels may make you more likely to end up conceiving that same month. So it can be confusing to people who are pretty darn sure they notice symptoms just after O, but mistake them for pregnancy when in reality the pregnancy does not cause symptoms for another week or so. :)

Hi atomic,
Thanks as always for the response!
I am doing eggs per week and one serving of full fat dairy but only really started doing this in the last couple of weeks. My luteal phase was short when I was TTC number two - it weirdly lengthened by exactly a day each month until I got to 8 days and then I got pregnant.
Can I get tested for hypothyroid / PCOS etc while on femara? If so, I guess no harm in going to the docs to get stuff tested.
My mum had irregular periods and so did my Grandma (both had chronic infertility) so maybe being a late ovulater runs in the family. I haven’t had one cycle the same yet but then again I only have a few cycles to go on as I conceived my first son on cycle 2 and my second son on cycle 4.
I am fairly sure I ovulate when I think I do. My pos opk, cm and o pains back it up.
I religiously opk. I think I am actually going to stop next cycle as it is causing me too much anxiety. I am a natural born worrierer - for example, my latest worry is that I have really high testosterone/ am hypothyroid or something which is causing late ov and my chances for a girl are doomed.

Unfortunately atomic & ladies it’s like clockwork the same as last month despite trying clomid later (5-9) to give my estrogen a chance to get going. Yesterday CD24 I had one bit of spotting & was so Hopeful it was implantation, but I have got up to see more AF like bleeding.
I think maybe it’s time for me to realise that my boys are my happy ever after & start living. I am so tired, tired physically & emotionally, tired of being scared of getting sick from my kids germs, tired of living daily for the future instead of being in the now. I don’t know if I can ever find a balance whilst I keep on this journey I’ve been on for years.
Our 2015 angel [emoji72] birthday should be next month, and then our recent successful baby girl HT loss [emoji72] should be due in July. Plus the transfers that didn’t take, they all carry heartache all the time, but dates on a calendar really make their mark.
Is it time to concede defeat, to give up in clomid, just let go of swaying?
Is my body even capable?
I’m sorry to burden you all with such heaviness but please know if I do disappear I am doing some soul searching, lots of crying & perhaps smashing a bag of crisps, some ice cream &/or chocolate for a day or 2, & then torturing myself with guilt [emoji51].
But if I’m not here, please know that I am still 100% thinking of you ladies fighting for your dreams & hoping beyond hope that you indeed get your happily ever after, you all deserve that xoxo thank you for hoping the same for me the last 2 months, it has meant the world [emoji847]
I may try in June, but I don’t know what I should do regarding the clomid, maybe 25mg would be more successful?

Emshe - I am so sorry to hear that this month didn’t work out. It must be so tough given the anniversary of your losses.
I did failed IVF PGD in 2016 so I know how you feel on that front, plus I am on my fourth cycle trying and I - like you - had a short luteal.
But I just think never ever give up on your dream of a little girl.
I would try one more Clomid round, do the atomic fertility diet. If this next round doesn’t work, just do every 4 days and stick roughly to the principles of the diet. Don’t do opks etc - just leave it up to nature.
You definitely need to do something about your inability to live life for now though. I am with you on that - feel like this is taking up a hell of a lot of headspace so I am not going to do opks etc anymore and will just try and chill and enjoy my boys.
Wishing you all the very best, big hugs xx

Hi, I posted this in the my sway forum too but wondering if anyone here has had similar experiences. Af showed up earlier than expected this month so I started taking clomid 2 days ago.
I'm really struggling with the side effects already, I'm having awful anxiety and feel quite panicked, I didn't sleep last night because of this plus hot flushes, which is probably not helping things. My question is should I ride it out? Is it bad for my health to stop after 2 days? I am so worried I'm going to feel like this for the whole month. I don't usually have any pmt symptoms at all so this is all really different for me.
Thank you in advance for any advice and sorry if I sound pathetic , I've never felt like this before in my life.
For clarity I am taking clomid purely for sway purposes and this is the first time I have taken it.

Hi! Sorry you are having problems. It is not bad for your health to stop after 2 days! If it gets to be too much you are better off stopping. Also if you have moderate+ vision disturbances you MUST stop.
You don't sound pathetic at all, btw. Did you buy it online? If you got it from a sketchy source, definitely stop.

Thank you , yes I did get it online but it is a registered pharmacy. I think I might try and take one tonight before bed to see if that makes any difference. I can't believe that taking something for only two days is effecting me so much , unless it's all in my head and I'm over thinking it x

It's fine to stop taking it and yes it does affect some people strongly that way. You won't feel like this the whole month, only while you're taking the medicine, but you may feel off for most of the month (not this bad, but more hormone-y)

Yes you can be tested for things while on Femara but you must let them know you're taking it.
Tendencies towards PCO (and the irregular cycles caused by those tendencies, even if you don't have the syndrome itself) can indeed run in famllies.
I think it's a good idea to ditch OPK for now and just BD every 4 days (Mon-Thurs pattern)

Awww Emshe hugest ((((hugs))))).
We can always relax with swaying without giving it up totally. I feel like many times it seems an all or nothing proposition but it really isn't, we can do some things without doing EVERYthing and I help people adjust their sways for better chances of conception all the time.
If you think the Clomid is acting too strongly on you then 25 mg may be better. OR, the Clomid does seem to stay in the system and sway pink a month or two after stopping it and so it may be the case that trying next month may be a wise move (or not, if you can't do it, spiritually) But many of us, myself included, got girls without Clomid too.

The diet really doesn’t bother me & I love the exercise, nothing to do with the sway is difficult although my weight hasn’t really come back on, it’s staying more stable. I am having a break from exercise for a bit, 3rd day off now, and catching up on some sleep.
I guess my concern with the clomid is my luteal phase? But looking at it (see below) taking it days 3-7 was actually better for luteal phase as it bought ov forward. Maybe I should try day 2-6?
First clomid cycle I took it @CD 3-7
Positive opk @CD 15(9pm)
Likely ovulation @CD 16 or 17
AF started @CD 25, spotting 24
LP - 8-9 days
Second clomid cycle I took it @CD 5-9
Positive opk @CD 18
Likely ovulation @ CD 19
AF started @ CD 26 spotting from 24( start at CD 26 to be confirmed but things really seem to be kicking off now)
LP - 6 days
I am tempted to give clomid another go and then have a natural cycle the next 1 or 2. Then that’s it.
But what if I take it then feel like I just can’t go through with ttc that month? It’d be perfect for the next cycle but is it bad!?
Anything else I can do to lengthen the luteal phase? I do 4 eggs, salmon 1/week, yoghurt daily, & always hit 50-60g fat & protein. Maybe pull back exercise to 5 times? Any supplements or do they sway strongly? I’m hitting 1700 cals, but the amount of veg I eat that’s not included is quite a lot, I love my Veges. Should I go higher again?
I do feel a month off without trying is a good idea. I’ve booked a weekend away where we conceived our first [emoji72] and I plan to drink a few drinks beyond meal times for the first time in years... 2 days of not really adhering too strictly, something that will thrill hubby! During most of my pregnancy, first thing I had to do upon waking up was blow my nose because it would get so boogery (sorry, TMI) over night. This morning, same deal. Even though to be fair, I tend to get this once in the fall and once in the spring even when not pregnant, and I don't recall getting it in my pregnancy before BFP.

Emshe - I forget but did you say they told you to move Clomid back from days 3-7 to 5-9 because of your short LP? Because I think my OBGYN told me the opposite - when he started me on it he said do days 3-7 because I have such short cycles and a shorter LP (about 10 days). Also - When I saw the RE last month, she said that Clomid works better (in terms of conception) when taken days 3-7. She didn't really tell me what that was based on (data/studies/her experience), but she seemed pretty confident in that. And I think I told you this before, but I definitely saw more changes in the way my body was responding to Clomid on my 3rd cycle taking it then I did in the first two cycles - it was like it really "kicked in" on that 3rd cycle.
Are you thinking of taking this cycle off and then trying w/ Clomid again next cycle or trying this cycle and then taking a break next cycle?

Hi, do you take yours right before bed? That's what I do, and I only have minor side effects that I wouldn't even have noticed if I didn't know they were side effects (minor hot flashes, extra moodiness). This cycle I got headaches around O time, but I think that's for reasons other than the Clomid, because I think Clomid is only supposed to cause headaches for the days you take it, not suddenly around O.

This cycle I got headaches around O time, but I think that's for reasons other than the Clomid, because I think Clomid is only supposed to cause headaches for the days you take it, not suddenly around O.
The past two days I took it before bed and I felt much better , still tearful but not anxious or panicked like I was. I can cope with the hot flushes and being hormonal but I felt like I was having a panic attack.
Unless of course it's actually me feeling stressed about ttc this month, but I do feel better today so hopefully that's the worst of it over with.
Did you find you had any other side effects throughout your cycle ? X

Last month I felt more anger prone during the entire cycle than I usually am. So I attributed that to Clomid, but who knows really?

Yes have had headaches around O, anxiety, and crankiness all reported as side effects of Clomid. It can cause symptoms even when not taking it, whenever hormones shift. :)

Just chiming in to say I take Clomid at night and haven't noticed any major side effects - except maybe some acne. Sounds like taking it at night may be better for avoiding side effects.

Thank you ABC, yeah I am thinking 3-7 looks better for me. Wondering if even 2-6 might extend luteal phase more. Although I did feel more energetic when I took it 5-9, but maybe that was like you said my body was more used to it. Yes I was planning to take a cycle off. Want to go away and just be for a couple of days next weekend. It makes me really moody & id be doing OPK etc. Then I plan to take it again for June cycle. Hope that doesn't mean my body forgets that it's had it before...
About the aspirin, does that effect sway at all, Im wondering if I should do it. I have some from HT cycles, & Crinone too!
Hope everyone is going well over in the 2WW! & you're feeling ok & not too concerned over your fun ;)

I think that sounds like a perfect plan - taking a cycle off, getting some time away, and just relaxing!!! And I think going back to 3-7 sounds best. I don't know about 2-6 (I'm sure atomic can answer!) but I thought I had heard that it needs to be started between days 3 & 5. As far as your body forgetting I doubt that will happen. I had a break between my 2nd and 3rd cycles on it b/c I got pregnant the 2nd cycle, had a miscarriage @ 5 weeks, and doc wanted me to wait until next AF came before starting me back on it. And still it was that 3rd cycle that I saw stronger effects of it.
Yea I've chilled out about our little "oopsie" on Friday night. It still doesn't look like I have O'd (although I got a +OPK on Monday) so I'm sure it's not going to happen LOL! Now trying to decide whether to start TTC-ing again next cycle or the one after... Still torn! DH really wants to try next cycle - he's ready to start again, part of why he was totally ok w/ not pulling out or using protection on Friday! :)
I don't know if baby aspirin really "sways" (again atomic I'm sure can answer!) and I know atomic has concerns about it. I am taking it now b/c my OBGYN has strongly recommended that after 3 unexplained miscarriages, I should at least try it - and I'm so fed up with m/c's that I'm just ready to try something at this point.

I love that hubby is so keen to ttc, thats lovely and Im so glad your more at ease with the oopsie. Look at Pbn! ABC the decisions are always at the forefront of thought. I guess only time will tell if you're ready or not. My stupidity with not trying in May(& I cue the yelling at me from behind the screens) is not just sentiment but the stupid chinese gender calendar thats always been right for me. I repeat complete stupidity!!! But I do feel we need a break, maybe even have sex for the sake of enjoyment for awhile, that will make my hubby happy, he cant stand the "I don't want to orgasm" pressure.
I completely understand ABC, I already worry beyond getting pregnant, that Ill get pregnant and miscarry again. Its one worry after another isn't it. I go backwards and forwards between feeling I want to just let it be & see what happens but Ill be nervous the whole time if I get there. Plus Im not seeing a FS to guide me at this point.

Emshe, we have different circumstances, but a lot in common. I'm on my 3rd consecutive Clomid cycle now (had a 4th but with a month and a half break earlier), and I'm in the 2ww approx 5DPO, and if I'm not pregnant, I'm going to take time off. We'll do NTNP, but I have an ovulation issue, so while it's definitely possible that I'd get pregnant without Clomid, I'm guessing there's only like a 5% chance each cycle. We tried naturally for 11 months unsucessfully with my 1st before getting pregnant on Clomid.
I have one round of 50mg Clomid left and one round of 25 mg. My plan (if I'm not pregnant this cycle) is to wait until I ovulate twice naturally on my own (assuming I don't get pregnant those times) and on the 2nd AF to take 50 mg, if I don't get pregnant that time, to take 25 mg, and if I don't get pregnant that time, to ask for a referral for an RE. Cuz if I'm not pregnant by then it will be I had 3 well timed attempts on 50 mg, and 2 well timed attempts on 25 mg, and still didn't get pregnant (I'm not counting the extra 50 mg attempt where I had an 8 day luteal phase).
I still have a decent amount of hope that I'm pregnant this cycle. I've had extra tiredness, food cravings, TMI!! bloody snot, and extra friskiness. I looked in my pregnancy diary though, and before BFP I had had 3 symptoms and I don't have any of those ones now, but I'm 5 DPO, but before BFP could mean 10 DPO because I didn't write exactly when it happened, just before BFP. I know, I know, I need to take a chill pill.
